A relaxing day at my first beach!
Not only was it my first beach, but it was my first time in the Gulf of Mexico. This was just one of the many stops in a crazy, but awesome Spring Break week with some great friends.
The weather was nice, but the Gulf was still cool from winter. So Jacob and I waded out and tried out best to enjoy the waves. Megan took the majority of the photos you’ll see below.
We enjoyed the beach for a few hours. I smuggled some mason jars onto the beach and filled them with sand, water and some shells found around where we were sitting. My dad still has some in his house and they still look pretty decent!
Aside from chilling on the beach and trying to play in the cold ocean, I wish I had more to say. Jacob told me that sharks can swim in water as shallow as 3′, so that made the rest of the time in the water rather fun. Kept quite an eye out for some sharks and luckily, we made it out safe and sound.
Florida has a ton of beaches. I would tell you to visit this one, but there has to be many to choose from! Especially in Panama City Beach, where we ended up later that week. So just hit up any...
Read moreThe week we were on Cape San Blas the park was technically "closed", but we used it for beach access. Accessible to most and nice facilities with public health signage and clearly marked water safety conditions. There are active beach improvements going on but they shut down by 230pm and it's a temporary thing, so that's a plus. Easy access for surf fishing and they allow fires as long as you bury the coals when you're done and don't go crazy. Or at least some lady who lives here said it was fine. Maybe check the local regs. Dogs allowed. I saw a pod of dolphin this morning and a 5 foot shark in the surf. Nature! Good whiting bite in the surf. Kind of a lot of hardhead and gafftopsail catfish around, but still fun. Beautiful sunsets every day...
Read moreLarge open natural area. Probably an excellent space for RV users. Only drawback is the beach is closed to dogs. The entire Cape is designed for dog travelers. Rentals, 8 miles of beach, stores, public poop bags, all positioned to attract dog owners, but the state park occupying a third of Cape San Blas is not available to dogs. I know it's state law, but an exception for the area catering to dogs is obvious. That being said, driving through the park is nice ANF the dedication to maintaining natural condition is impressive. Still don't think anything would be damaged by allowing dogs on...
