Skully’s is an absolute must visit establishment if you’re nearby the Forgotten Coast. This place exemplifies perfectly what makes this stretch of the Gulf so charming. We stopped for dinner after spending the day on Cape San Blas. This is a no-frills establishment. Just a small window to place your order and a few picnic tables out front to eat the food. Everything is packaged to-go, so if you’re staying nearby, it would be easy to take home. When we got to the window, Skully himself greeted us. We realized that it was cash only and I said I’d run down the road to grab some cash. Skully’s response was, “You’re here now. You’re gonna get some food. You can pay me tomorrow. I don’t care. Grab a beer and sit down. It’ll be ready in about 10 minutes. The beers are in the cooler. They’re free”. I ended up going to grab some cash a bit later and returning to pay him, but it’s refreshing to see that there are still places around that offer this kind of small town hospitality to a complete stranger. As far as the food goes, we ordered a “small” bucket of low country boil ($50) plus a “pound” of shrimp ($20) for our family of 5. We ended up taking almost the entire pound of shrimp home because the small bucket was so much food. Most low country boils are heavy on the potatoes, corn, and sausage, and topped off with seafood. This was the exact opposite. I’d wager there were nearly 2 pounds of shrimp in the bucket and this was topped off with the other fixings. It was cooked perfectly. The shrimp were fresh. The spice was just right. The extra “pound” of shrimp we ordered was also a very generous pound. I’m not sure what type of scale Skully uses, but I can assure you he’s not cheating anybody...

My wife and I are total food snobs. We rarely eat out because we just don't see the value in it and quite frankly, we can cook better than 99% of the restaurants.
Well, this is one of the 1% place we cannot cook better! We ordered the low country boil for two people for takeout. We rarely carry cash (this is a cash-only place) and had only 30$ between us. The very kind owners said "yeah that's plenty, if you can come back with the rest!" Who does that in today's society? Of course we came back with the rest of the money later that night.
Now, onto the food. As I said, we did takeout and got a very heavy plastic bag of food. We got home (we were staying less than 2 mins away) and I pulled one of the plastic containers out of the bag. It was filled to the brim with incredible shrimp, sausage and a few pieces of corn and potatoes. I thought WOW what a great deal and I figured the OTHER container would have filler like corn and potatoes. So I peeked in there and nope, same thing! It was filled to the brim with the same amount of food!
The shrimp were perfectly done and not overcooked. The thing that really got me was the ears of corn. Usually the corn is water logged and quite frankly, not all that tasty. However, here it was just perfect! Everything was beyond delicious!
Now I'm a big eater. I rarely get my fill at a restaurant, but with this meal, we literally had 5 meals between my wife and I. It was just as good leftover cold the next day as it was the first.
So in summary, probably one of the best, most friendliest places I've ever been too. Just go, you will NOT be...
Read moreWe had the extraordinary experience of enjoying the most succulent low country boil and gumbo at SKULLY’S for the first time today!!! We’ve been planning to visit this legendary establishment for a very long time and trust us, IT DIDN’T DISAPPOINT. Our boil was on point: huge fresh shrimp (it doesn’t get fresher than this), sausage, perfectly boiled potatoes and corn cobs, all deliciously seasoned, just the perfect kick… it was perfection in our mouths!!! We were starving and had the three people bowl. The portions were enormous and so generous, more than enough for three hungry adults and we had leftovers. The owner is the friendliest guy you’ll find in the entire Cape San Blas and he treated my veteran 90 year old Dad with a whole order of complimentary crab legs to thank him for his service… We were blown away!!! He sings and plays the guitar so we enjoyed the music, the incredible seafood (sodas and beer included with the meal), and the most amazing company. If you’re at the Cape, YOU HAVE TO EXPERIENCE SKULLY’S. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon,...
