Nice, clean place to enjoy cards.... BUT, Ask any of the regulars ( except the $2 / $4 players ) you'll get over 95 % of them agreeing that Oxford Downs would be a more enjoyable experience if the limit ( $2 / $4 ) tables had their own high hand... The position of the regulars is that the one / two tables contribute to the high hand jack pot 7 days a week and the two / four players only show up 2 days a week and win a majority of the high hands on those days ( per capita)... Thus the one / two tables are contributing the most to the high hand jack pots yet on the bigger payout days the two / four players are being rewarded FAR MORE than they contribute to the high hand jack pot.... Management has been made aware on numerous occasions that their " base foundation regular customers" would love to see the one / two tables have their own High Hand.... It seems so Elementary and simple that they could simply look at the books for the last couple of months for each of the tables determine a basic average that each of the games contribute to the jackpot and then give payouts to those specific tables based on the average that they're contributing to the jackpot.... When a business is customers are happy the business thrives.... Would love to see ownership get involvedand make some changes based on what the customers would like to see..... HERE'S AN IDEA -. Install a suggestion box and if you have enough people requesting the same suggestions actually make a concerted effort to an act the changes your customers are...
Read moreI have played at Oxford Downs since moving to Florida in 2019. Unfortunately, I can no longer deal with poor decision-making of the poker floor/management. Oxofrd Downs states that they follow TDA rules during tournaments. This is the farthest thing from the truth, and I have repeatedly witnessed it. The dealers NEVER speak up when a player breaks a TDA rule. (Examples being acting out of turn, cursing or threatening other players, saying call and then being allowed to take their chips back, throwing cards off the table or at a dealer, and calling another player at the table a racially derogatory word.) The floor will come over and dat worse guve the player a warning. If you are serious about your poker and your $$$ i would avoid Oxoford Downs. If you want to socialize and don't mind occasional nonsense with your money, it can be a fun place. Most of the dealers are very friendly people and are pleasent to speak with. When I gamble I want the rules enforced and they are simply NOT at this location. I would prefer to drive to Ocala or Tampa and see the rules enforced versus players being allowed to do anything at the table. (BTW The excuse that has repeatedly been explained to me is "the player was older or new and unaware of the rule." These are excuses when management's money is not on the line! I am taking a break from Oxford until I hear of some changes in management...
Read moreOut of all of the card rooms in Florida, Oxford Downs is the greatest. In my time playing here I have been witness to all the sorts of mishaps and disputes that commonly arise in poker rooms and the floor has handled it perfectly every time. Hernan, the other floor managers, and the staff in general have wholeheartedly earned my respect for the way they have dealt with the difficult situations that inevitably arise. Everything is run smoothly, professionally, and according to the conventions of Florida's long standing pari-mutuel betting tradition.
The property is large, beautiful, and extremely safe. Security and police partners are commonly present and vigilant and the underlying infrastructure of the roads and parking lot are very secure. The action and player pools are some of the best in Florida. A large group of highly respectable regulars frequent this room who make for some of the friendliest and talkative tables I have ever played at. While plenty of them are capable of playing highly skilled and interesting poker, the underlying vibe is still one of earned men who came to gamble it up over some cards and tip the dealer $15 after rivering the gutshot for a massive pot. If your looking for a gambling entertainment location built around the tradition of American card rooms rather than a disorienting and sad casino, Oxford Downs is the...
