My family and I recently had multiple disappointing experiences at your park that I feel warrant the attention from beyond in house management.
We first visited with out of town relatives, we didn’t participate in all the water activities because of our party size however, we were impressed by the attractions. Living over an hour away, we promised our kids we would return before summer ended.
Last week, we made the trip with our two boys and discovered the ropes course was closed indefinitely due to storm damage, understandable. We enjoyed the aqua park so much that we planned another visit today (Saturday) bringing our nephews for a final summer outing.
Unfortunately, this visit was not the case by poor communication and questionable management decisions:
Unannounced Closure of the Aqua Park. Upon arrival, we learned the aqua park was sold out due to a private field trip. Staff informed us they were also uniformed and was only told when they came into work, as it happened! I was told by all employees I spoke with that the manager (Ryan Eubanks) made the decision to give the group exclusive use of the entire attraction for all SIX time slots on the last weekend of summer.
•There were no signs posted the previous weekend, no email sent to account holders, and no notice on social media. Had we known, we would not have made the 80 minute drive.
While I understand booking private events happen but, fully reserving the only major attraction for younger children on a Saturday with no public access is extreme. Other venues (bowling alleys, skating rinks, etc.) typically block off partial time slots, not an entire day, all time slots.
Website Misinformation Staff suggested wakeboarding, but I was uncomfortable with my youngest 2 trying it without instruction. I asked about the “Learn to Ride” session advertised online, only to be told this option no longer exists due to no instructor.
Unsafe Lightning Policy Later in the day, we noticed the aqua park was empty and inquired again to now find out the field trip was over at 4 p.m., so we purchased two tickets for our youngest children.
Immediately as they began playing, dark storm clouds moved in and lightning was detected nearby n the alarm tower went off. Worried and confused I asked what’s going on. I heard the manager (Ryan) over the walkie talkie instructing staff to close wakeboarding but not the aqua park ! Despite both sharing the SAME body of water and poles for wakeboarding being in close proximity!!!!
Over hearing the staff expressing concern to each other, noting the wakeboarding towers had been struck by lightning before!!! This decision appeared to be revenue related rather than safety. Within moments, the weather got worse and it began pouring. We did not receive the value we paid for and did not bother weathering the storm for miscommunication and poor judgment from their management.
Employee Concerns Multiple employees expressed frustration over being uninformed about closures and decisions on safety for themselves and the guest. I was told the aqua park can technically hold up to 120 people with three lifeguards, but management refuses to train additional staff limiting capacity unnecessarily.
In my opinion, these issues demonstrate •A disregard for guest safety and employee safety during storms •Poor communication to both staff and customers •Misuse of management authority •Practices that negatively impact revenue, employee morale, and customer satisfaction
I have previously recommended this park to friends and family, but these experiences have changed my opinion. The uncertainty in safety protocols and inconsistent operations make me hesitant to return. I URGE corporate to review management(Ryan Eubanks) practices at this location to ensure better communication, safety prioritization, and a consistent guest experience.
This review would have been five stars if it weren’t for todays experience, change the practices, protocols and management and we...
Read morePlanned a whole weekend and travel around visiting this park for my son's birthday. The park was the only reason we decided to drive the 3 hours to this side of the state, and we found other fun activities to fill the remainder of the time, booked a place to stay and made a weekend of it. I reserved spots for Saturday; when it started to rain on our drive there, I called the office and was advised "it's more fun in the rain, we only cancel for lightning so come on in." We got there 15 minutes later, paid $5 for parking and were advised that the park was closed due to lightning that was 6 miles out. It's Florida, I get it. We were given vouchers for a future visit- and no refund for parking. We decided to move around other plans and go back the next day. I chose to not reserve a spot, considering I'd have to pay again. I was, however, checking the website constantly to be sure there were still 1100 reservations open. We get to the park Sunday morning at 1045 before they're open, pay again for parking, walk up to the office and are advised that the aqua park is booked until 1400. Trying to salvage what is left of my kid's birthday weekend and still having to drive across the state to get home, waiting 3 hours for 45 minutes of fun wasn't worth it- not to mention the forecasted rain for that time. So while it may be fun for some, don't make this place the reason to come here and don't have your heart set on actually being able to use the park. There are many better options in the Bay Area to spend...
Read moreThis is a quick great quick go-to beach; for adults and kids. What I like most about Sun West is that it is everyone's beach. You get all types of people from all different walks of life. It is like the "Wal-Mart" of beaches-and I mean that affectionately! Every one seems to respect your space...you beach bubble. People are quick to help or answer a question. The beach is huge so enough space for everyone. The parking can be limited at times, but there is typically always a space out there. Pros; Big beach, typically clean, rinse of stations, bathrooms, changing rooms, volleyball nets, knee boarding, obstacle courses in water, food trucks for snacks, trash cans throughout.
Cons; The lake is buoyed off due to a 20ft drop so you don't actually have a lot of depth for swimming unless you are kid. It goes about waist deep at most for adults.
Pro/Con depending on the type of person you are; a lot of folks like to play music. Sometimes it can be annoying when you have a few groups blaring different music around you. So.etimes people blare some music that may not be appropriate for kids, but the beach is huge so if you're that type plenty of space to relocate.
Parking $5.00 via debit/credit card. No...
