Joining Hunter Hill CSA was the highlight of our year! Each week, we picked up a very large bag of beautiful, just-picked produce. Every year is a little different, but there was always a good balance of salad greens and a hefty amount of other seasonal veggies. A good mix of standby potatoes, onions, peppers, tomatoes, squash etc., as well as some fun things like okra, kohlrabi, and turnips that were new to us. Our household contains two very hungry vegetarians, and we cook at home or meal prep for pretty much every day...our weekly share consistently provides exactly the number of veggies we can possibly eat in a week. After picking up the share, I usually spend anywhere from a half-hour to one and a half hours washing everything and packing it in the fridge, which makes cooking and snacking SO much easier. With some things like potatoes and beets, you will see more dirt than with grocery store veggies, so be prepared to actually wash them. We felt the produce is an excellent value, especially for how fresh and delicious it is. I also love how there was no plastic waste from all these veggies! Farmers Dan and Katie put in so much hard work to give a really good product and a really good experience to...
Read moreKaty, Dan and Bethany grow beautiful produce: more variety and abundance than I ever harvested from my own large garden, or obtained from other CSA's I belonged to in CT and ME. A Hunter Hill Farm share is a great way to give our family healthy, fresh greens and vegetables while supporting the local, sustainable farm. It helps to have a good salad spinner and an Instant Pot for prepping and cooking all the bounty. If you are used to greens coming prewashed in plastic tubs, you may find the change a challenge, but the fresh taste and obviously superior nutrition should convert you. The weekly emails with recipes are inspiring. I tried a recipe for cabbage that went over so well, our gang is still asking for more. It is great to have several choices each week as well. I can only give my family one dish a week with a jalapeno snuck in, and I couldn't convince anyone to try okra instead of delicious green beans even though I'm certain fresh is better than the slimy frozen okra we grew up with. Maybe next year... Thank you for the great season, providing food that will keep our immune systems strong in these...
Read moreI have been a member of this CSA for the past 2 years, after the quality of my CSA at work went downhill. This is by far the best CSA I have ever been a part of! My husband and I look forward to Dan’s weekly emails highlighting that week’s crops and recommended uses/recipes. I really appectiate the pick up window, as it still allows us to get our share even if we are working later than usual. All the fruits and vegetables are always super fresh and bountiful. You CANNOT get produce that is this fresh or of this quality for even close to this price at the grocery store. There are also many payment options and a share cost relief fund, which shows Dan really cares about members and the community. My husband and I rave about this CSA to everyone we know and dread the few months that we have to go to a store for our produce! I cannot say enough good things about Hunter Hill CSA and enthusiastically...
