I truly believe this to be one of the most beautiful places in the world. From my understanding this is the only Biome in north America in which you can find a rainforest at a mountain elevation. Truly a remarkable place.
If I ever get married, this is currently my top pick for a proposal spot.
I got here late at night, and it was just as sacred and beautiful as in the day time. Lots of stars out, serenely quiet, yet still calming to hear the surrounding wild life. This was a last minute solo trip (with dog), but not once did I ever feel "alone" or "lonley" 🙏🏽✝️
As mentioned by the signs, this is an older part of the forest and you can feel it. Everything around you feels like an ancient forest of what used to be. It very much feels like an enchanted forest from a fairy tail.
In terms of difficulty, this is the most bang for your buck hike I've ever done. minim effort, maximum reward. It's all mostly flat and easy for any fitness level, great for kids, elderly etc. I suppose the only con I can think of is that the gift ship is pretty bear bones compared to something like grand canyon.
A fun fact, the park deems the water that runs through the streams as safe to drink. The glacier flour within the waters is also perfectly safe for consumption. I also suffer from strong nasal allergies due to the crop/air quality in SoCal. Not once did I get allergies here, things are cleaner...
This is currently my highest rated location, ever. I"m only upset I didn't have the time to...
Read moreStunning natural site with multiple hiking trails and guided walking tours. Ignore the literature that says there are no mosquitos because the river is too cold for them to breed in; when we went there were mosquitos and plenty of deer and horse flies, so bug spray is a must take! It is easy to wander off the easy hall of mosses half mile loop and find yourself climbing moderately hard inclines, so be prepared to turn around if you are not a hiker prepared to put some effort into a hike. We originally went just for the east half mile hall of mosses loop and despite following the signs, found ourselves on a much longer much more strenuous loop.
The biggest detractor, though, is the hours long line you wait in in your car before getting to the ranger station where they let one car in for every one car that comes out when the lot is full. They have signs posted along the way telling you how long your wait will be; we went first thing in the morning on a Monday(avoiding the weekend) as soon as it was open and our wait was an hour and a half. It was worth the wait, especially if you plan to hike one of the longer trails or have never seen any of the temperate rainforest in the...
Read moreThe Hall of Mosses trail is a must experience!! There is a cute little visitor center with information and some gift items such as post cards, books, and other miscellaneous items. The trail is right next to the visitor center, and there is plenty of parking available. The trail itself is super short and easy. It's definitely beginner friendly with not much incline and clearly defined walkways. Along the trail, there are informational signs and poems. The atmosphere is Ethereal and to die for. The trees are absolutely stunning. We didn't see any elk or slugs, but we did see plenty of butterflies and mushrooms. You really feel like you are stepping into another realm altogether on this trail. It's breathtaking how tall and majestic the trees covered in moss are. This is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been and I've lived all over the United States! I highly recommend you check it out if you get the chance. We will definitely go back for a weekend sometime and check out the other trails the park...
