Might have skipped this trail if the Hall of Mosses was open. But, I’m so happy we went with this hike instead. Lots of beautiful trees, ferns, moss, mushrooms, fungi and birds. We even stumbled across a momma bear! Thankfully, it was high up in a tree, stripping the bark to eat the sap and bugs found underneath. She’s apparently been spending a lot of time in the area and they haven’t been able to encourage her to move on. So she must have her very new cubs hidden away nearby. A ranger said she had seen the cubs a week before and they were still very small. They have bear warning signs at the head of the trail, but I was still shocked to see one on a such a busy day.

While watching the bear we also found a banana slug and later stumbled across a centipede crossing the path.

Path is muddy after a rain, so expect to get your shoes, and possibly your pants dirty. Hike is 1.2 miles round trip, with very little change in elevation. I have a mobility disability, with issues with stability, and I was able to do it. But, we took it slowly and really tried to soak in the nature. There were some areas where I had to have my husband’s assistance to avoid deep mud or to cross in an odd spot. I was also very mindful of all the roots along the path. There are no benches along the way, but there’s a spot by the river about half way that is a good...

After doing the Hall of Moss trail, round back to the beginning to start this trail! It’s fairly short and easy trail. There’s various informative posts that inform you of various fauna and flora and the history of the geographic location.

In the beginning you’ll be able to hear the sounds of the river but not see it… just yet. Towards the end you’ll be able to see the river and the views of the hills! Very scenic and pretty!! There’s also a fallen base of a massive tree, super interesting to see up close just how massive the trees get! Definitely...

Nice 1.2 mile loop trail. Cuts off from the end of the hall of mosses trail so we just kept going. It was a nice trail and very easy to due. Good for almost all ages unless you're in a chair or a walker. There were lots of similar views from hall of mosses. Didnt see any elk but there were plenty of birds. About 1/2 to 3/4 through you come out to the hoh River which was a nice view. Lots of people sitting having a bite to eat and enjoying the views. It was quiet and less crowded than...
