This will forever be one of my favorite trails. The path itself it well maintained. It is .8 miles from the trailhead to the beach. The first time I tackled this trail (one year ago in July 2023) when I was the most unhealthy I ever was (over 300 lbs), but I did it. The steps were the hardest....they made me cry in 2023. Fast forward a year, I've lost weight and I've been hiking at home most weekends. Now it's July 2024 and I'm a healthier chunk and I had few problems with the trail.
The hardest part is still the 172 stairs toward the end of the trail (right before the beach). The trail prior to the stairs looks like something from Bridge to Terabithia...over grown ferns, moss, oversized slugs, huge spruce trees loaming like giant forest guardians.
Even if you don't like the beach, I recommend this trail. Even if you turn around and go back to your vehicle as soon as the trail is done.
There is no public restrooms. Only a couple of port-a-potty, but it had been cleaned right before we started our hike...

However, I went the first week of August this year and it was a mess. The large groups of families were so disrespectful. There was toilet paper littered across the back tree line are and families were lighting fires everywhere, even amid the very serious state wide fire ban. When my fiancé and I arrived and set up our spot, we had no one near us. We returned after a hike to be sandwiched between two large family groups with zero respect to our personal space. There was little to know privacy, a group literally lined three tents up all in front of us obstructing our view and we had fire smoke blowing into both the front and back of our tent from both groups. Safe to say we either needed to sit in our tent with all doors closed, or walk around, just to get a little...
Read moreA really beatiful hike though the woods to get to an AMAZING costal beach. the trail is .8 of a mile out and back, and toward the end has some steep steps that could be tough for someone with mobility needs, though with plenty of opportunities for a break it's well worth the trek.
The coast is stunning. Tidal pools full of life, long wide beaches and rock formations made Second beach a highlight of out trip. It was cool to see so many people down there exploring and being respectful to clean up...
