The Ft Cobb state park is always a great outing for the family. My teenage boys spent the days over labor day 2017 swimming and fishing to their hearts content. Park was clean, has a nice portable tank dump location right in the park close to where we had a site reserved so it made easy work of going to dump our gray water tank as frequently as we needed.
Did have one issue with the park. The layout of the park is such that it promotes the use of the individual camp sites as a walk way for the herds of people going to swim, boat, or watch the live band at the marina.
We were in spot #31 and we had GROUPS of people just walking through our campsite, dogs in tow, in between our truck and the front of our 5th wheel, in between the connections for electrical/water on our non-slide side of camper, during dinner, making smores with the kids, etc. Was quite a point of contention with me.
Mentioned several times to the "passers" that our campground was not the "thru-way" but they didn't care. They still came and went as they wished. At one point I had words with another man who was a little tipsy. It didn't do any good except to start a bad situation which is not what I am there for when my wife and kids are with me. Didn't end up smacking anyone in the mouth for it, but truly trampled a bit on the "careless" vibe I was going for with my family.
Took a star away because of this. The park ranger/sheriff were present driving around most all days over the holiday and didn't stop it despite seeing it happen on at least two occasions. Shouldn't take a paying patron to start a tattle tale war to get something rectified if you see it take place and you know it to be wrong. It's just campground etiquette - if you don't pay for the site go around!...
Read moreMy family and I were going camping at Fort Cobb this weekend. I was told that they do not allow motorized recreational vehicles. I called the office to see if I could get an exception as I am disabled and in a wheelchair. I explained my situation to the lady and told her that I typically use a 4 Wheeler to get around as the terrain is not wheelchair friendly in most camping grounds. I was told that they only make exceptions with motorized golf carts. I once again explained that I am disabled and ain a wheelchair and asked if they made exceptions for the disabled. She told me they do not make exceptions for disabled people. They will only allow a motorized golf cart or a motorized scooter. I questioned, a motorized scooter? She said yes it's like a wheelchair but motorized.
I do not need an exception with a park permit to use my motorized wheelchair. That is absolutely ludicrous. I'm shocked to know that they do not make exceptions for the disabled. I do not have a golf cart because that requires the use of your legs. A four Wwheeler is operated using your hands.
I wonder how the American Association for Disabled People would feel about their blatant refusal to accommodate disabled people.
I guess if you're disabled and do not have the use of your legs or your legs have been amputated, and you need accommodations, then you probably don't want to choose Ft. Cobb...
Read moreDeer Run spot #53 needs some serious attention. Timber’s have fallen free and rolled down the hill and are quite treacherous when exiting the rig. This spot is VERY narrow. We have a tiny 19ft long 10 ft wide camper and this spot is so small we could only extend our awning part way but that didn’t even matter because there wasn’t even room for us to sit by our camper anyway. And don’t even get me started on the boaters being allowed to dock right there at the shore line, where I had hoped my son could fish from. Boats parked there the entire weekend, people walking through our site to exit or enter their boats. Nothing of this was mentioned in the site description when I booked. Oh and no fire-pit at this site. Someone had collected some rocks and tried to make a small fire-pit but it was pretty crude and quite sad. Probably...
