Bowditch Point Park is a peaceful county park beach on the north end of Estero Island. Fort Myers Beach is the name of the town on Estero Island. Lynn Hall Park Beach is the more commercial beach at the end of the bridge from Ft Myers. After crossing the bridge turn right on Estero Boulevard and it ends at Bowditch. Turn right at the bathhouse, parking is behind it. Cars line up on the right curb waiting for a space to free up. Arrive by 9-10 am if you prefer not to wait for a parking space. A season parking pass can be purchased beforehand for $60 at the Lee County office on Bass Road, otherwise it is $2 per hour. The park pass is no good at Lynn Hall Beach. Bowditch beach is less commercial and less crowded than Lynn Hall Beach. Bowditch has more of a nature park feel. It is about 100 feet to the beach from the parking lot. There are short hiking trails on this point of the island. If you walk north on the beach it goes around the point and has views of San Carlos Bay and of the intercostal waterway. Walk south on the beach for 20 minutes and you'll be at Lynn Hall Beach with lots of shops and restaurant choices for lunch. We leave our gear on Bowditch beach and walk to Lynn Hall for lunch and have never had gear stolen, but I would not leave valuables with your chairs, umbrella, cooler etc. We swim here and there are shallow sand bars out 30 feet from the shore that are in 2-3 feet deep water. We swam in November last year and certainly March has very nice air and water temps for swimming. I've not noticed dangerous undertows but would stay close to children if they are swimming...
Read moreThere’s an indescribable feeling that washes over me when I stand at the edge of Florida’s coastline, gazing out at its vast expanse. The ocean here is both peaceful and strong, a paradox that resonates deeply within me. Each stretch of sea, each gulf, and each inlet holds its own unique charm, yet they all share a common thread: an overwhelming sense of tranquility and silent power. As I travel to various coastal destinations in Florida, I’m continually drawn to the sea. Whether it’s the serene beaches of the Gulf Coast, the vibrant shores of the Atlantic, or the tranquil waters of the Keys, the ocean never fails to captivate me. The quieter the surroundings, the more profound the experience. It’s in these silent moments that the true essence of the ocean reveals itself.
The Gulf Coast’s Serene Shores
One of my favorite places to experience the ocean’s majesty is along Florida’s Gulf Coast. The soft, white sands and calm, warm waters create a peaceful retreat that is both soothing and rejuvenating. Walking along the shore, the gentle lapping of the waves provides a soundtrack of serenity. The sunsets here are legendary, painting the sky in hues of orange, pink, and purple, casting a magical glow over the tranquil Beach, Siesta Key, and Sanibel Island offer their own unique charm. Clearwater Beach, with its bustling pier and family-friendly atmosphere, provides a perfect blend of activity and relaxation. Siesta Key, famous for its quartz-crystal sand, offers a...
Read moreThis is not the best beach for water quality, hence the 4 stars. The water from Lake O drains here and just ruins our water. It is not clear or nice appearing but we still swim here from time to time. What I love about this beach is that my parking pass covers free parking and that it is not "too far" of a walk like some. There are showers, drinking fountains & bathrooms. There are picnic tables and you can grill. There is a boardwalk to the beach and plenty of beach space. The sand here is amazing for my kids to play. You can find some nice shells, but this is not an ideal shelling beach. The sand is good for playing, super soft. There are extremely short nature trails through trees that my son likes to walk through & explore. We also like to walk from the trees along the water & to the beach. It is our beach of choice because we are 15 min away with young kids and here to enjoy the view and play in sand. Not to swim. Not our swim beach nor our shell finding beach. Wildlife is hit or miss for us. We have seen a GIANT pod of dolphins around sun set playing where the boats take off & having fun. The largest ever. Sunsets are amazing here also. The water could be much nicer, but we love the beach. The drive over the bridge is breath taking and just walking the beach is hugely stress relieving. A favorite. Wear repellent if planning to hang in woods...
