I drove from the Humboldt Redwoods to visit the Cape Mendocino Lighthouse at Shelter Cove.
The small historic lighthouse was moved from its original location in 1998 to Shelter Cove and restored in order to preserve it.
A trail from the lighthouse takes you to tidepools, and a rocky beach with crashing waves with a number of offshore islands.
The rugged Kings Range and the Lost Coast Trail are located in the area for adventure seekers.
The lighthouse is located at Mel Coombs Park with picnic tables, BBQ pit, and pit toilets.
The lighthouse is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
