This is a really nice walk through giant redwoods. It's easy to reach from the Avenue of the Giants, and there is a parking lot and rest rooms at the trail head. The trees are amazing to see up close. They are indescribably huge. In some ways the fallen trees (and there are a lot of them) are even more impressive than the standing ones--you can see up close how enormous they are. I read that Founders Tree, at the trailhead, is the 5th largest tree in the world. Dyerville Tree, further down the trail, was once the tallest but fell over about 30 years ago. I'm knocking a star off the trail because the signage is really poor. There's not just one loop--there are multiple trails, and at some point we got off course and missed part of the loop. Also, the Dyerville Tree is one of several fallen trees. We couldn't tell for sure which one was the Dyerville. So a good trail but the experience would be even better with better signage.

You can find some of the tallest trees in the world in this old growth forest that dates back to ancient times. The short loop trail will take you to the Founders Tree, which is listed at 346.1 ft tall. It is one the tallest and oldest Redwoods in the world. The trail will take you past towering Redwoods that have fallen to the ground. The most impressive fallen tree is at the end of the trail, the Dyerville Giant. This tree was the tallest, oldest at about 1,600 years old, and the largest tree in the grove when it fell in 1991. You will find a number of plants, and ferns as you walk along the trees that help inspired the founders of the Save the Redwood League in 1917. Located on the Avenue of the Giants North of Weott and near Highway 101. A very popular grove with some of the large tracts of ancient Redwoods in world that will take your breath away.
