The East Polk Heritage Center, the main campus of the East Polk Heritage Society, is a lovely place to go to witness the history of the people of East Polk County. You'll see art, photographs, linens, clothing, furniture, tools and much more. If you want to make sure to see the outbuildings as well as the main house, call ahead to make sure two people are working (a lot of small museums have trouble with this; it can be hard to get consistent volunteers for a morning or afternoon). If so, you'll also be able to see the schoolhouse, a large log cabin and the most recent addition, a small two-story cabin recently moved onto the property. These buildings contain such antiques as children's desks and books, a child's cradle, dolls, a fascinating chair carved from a single piece of wood (this is my personal favorite!), tools including a bear trap and a scythe, beautiful quilts, and much more. I believe the tiny (I mean, really tiny!) church on the campus is always open. It's adorable, and people have been married there! I wish we could see more farmers produce here, fresh fruit and vegetables would be nice 🙂 however, it doesn't give you much room when you are handicap accessibility if the place is full of cars it is a tight fit.A person could park alongside the road but then it's a longer walk.
