This is a very nice trail and I definitely would love to return. The actual trailhead is accessed via a narrow road and it's easy to spot and find. The cell signal is good here so you shouldn't have any issue with your GPS acting up as you navigate to here. As for parking it's a decent sized lot and there's plenty of room to pull in and out. Just know I was here on a weekday and the parking lot already was kind of full. In terms of amenities, there's only one single restroom and no water fountains.
For the trail, you can either go right and that takes you on a trail that winds through the pine trees. That trail did have the main paths labeled but within those paths, they would continue to off and there were no signs... it can be a little bit confusing. It was a gently sloping upward climb that still allowed you to get your cardio in and to reach the highest point took me only about 15 minutes as a guesstimate. The trail still continues from there but I believe it's only one way and so I turned back. I really did...
Read moreSo far, this is one of the most beautiful places I've stayed in Arizona! You may camp or stay in your RV for two weeks at a time & wake up to glorious hikes from fairly easy to difficult. The stars at night captivate you around a campfire. During a full moon, she will light your path for a night hike. There are also elk who come down to graze at the trailhead if you enjoy wild animal photography (I'll add those images soon!). Meet people from around the world. Fellow hikers, mountain bikers and horse riders gallor! Pine is a cute, artsy village within walking distance which has shopping, restaurants & a great tap room. Another adorable village, Strawberry, is right around the corner also. The locals treat you as an lifelong buddy & the town of Payson is a vista-filled, quick drive, 15 miles East to load up on supplies. Last but not least, there is a sublime swimming hole on the Verde River nearby to cool off and sunbathe on the surrounding boulders. A definite MUST if you are anywhere near this area!!...
