One of the prettier hikes I’ve been on. I would agree with it’s difficult rating, for it can get fairly steep at points and you’re exposed to the sun most of the time. There are a few water crossings (depending on how far you go,) but they weren’t difficult to cross without getting (too) wet.

The views of Four Peaks, Weevers Needle, and Battleship are breath taking. We saw a few cardinals, LOTS of lizards, and even a Gila monster, which I’ve never seen one in the wild before.

Keep in mind you do have to have a pass to park. You can purchase one at Canyon lake for $12 dollars. The marina parking lot that’s right across the street from the trailhead doesn’t open until 8:00 AM (per the sign) but it was open at 7:30 AM...

Beautiful drive to the marina, which contains 10 spots reserved for hiking the trailhead. You can also park on the sideroads and grey marked parking spots. Scenic 360⁰ views as words, pictures, and videos do no justice. We hiked halfway to the overlook, which is where I recommend you stop and take it all in.. The hike to the endpoint of the wash is rather underwhelming. We hiked on a cloudless day, which led to further exposure to the sun. There are no shaded areas. The trail is well kept and contains a minimal amount of loose rocks. The trail is an out and back...

This hike is as good as the reviews say. There was plenty of loose rock, stones to walk over and plenty of small ups and downs. The elevation change is gradual. I think moderate is a good rating for this hike. The views are very good. Probably some of the best near Phoenix.

There are 10 free spots across the road at the marina, no national forest fees. A bit further west is lots of Tonto National Forest parking of you buy a pass.

I can't imagine why someone would give any less...

Boulder Canyon Trail ⬇️ 📍 Near Canyon Lake 🥾 8.7 mile out and back 📈 1900 ft elevation gain 💰 no parking fee ♻️remember to leave no trace This a challenging trail with rewarding views. Plan to start early and bring plenty of water 💦. I attempted to do another connecting trail goes deeper into the canyon. However after half a mile of bushwhacking and falling a few times 😅, I decided to turn around due to time constraints and my irrational fear of snakes 🐍 😆 *Note about parking: there is a dirt lot next to the marina where you can park for free in designated space. The parking spot will have a sign that says ‘Boulder Canyon Trail Parking’. No need for Tonto Pass 😊 Let me know if the comments if you have any questions.
