Lake is incredible. Restaurant and staff are disgustingly rude. We even asked for the owner tonight and the lady serving us lied and said she was the owner and they did good enough business they didn't need to serve our family of 4. (Despite It being 5:10pm and the waitress telling us they were staying open another hour but we could only order Pizza or hors d'oeuvres.) We were going to order a pizza to go but were unable. We are used to being treated as family at Apache lake so we were quite taken back. We left when they told us we were at Canyon Lake because "you can't even get to Apache lake.". They were right... Sad they didn't seem to comprehend the damage they did tonight... even through OUR simple word of mouth. we tried to support their business today as we would typically support Apache.... HUGE MISTAKE! We walked away telling them "You do realize this isn't forever right? You may think your customers owe you for your service... but, We are used to being loved & appreciated. I will again continue to try to reach the owner him/herself before I say any more. BUT... we will NEVER bring our out of State guests to this place without some DEVINE intervention. Stay tuned.... We will let you know more details and how the true owner chooses to deal with it....
Read morePlan on testing out my new 3-seater angler kayak this weekend with my sons. My go-to lake... my mother's thoughts: After a few weeks of my mother's 1st visit from the midwest and staying with us, all she recalls is heat, desert/dirt, cacti, and continuous sun. One day, I decided to take her on her favorite pastime: fishing. I knew she didnt expect much, especially after being treated to our many man-made community farmed raised stocked local fishing spots. But during the end of our hour drive to get to Canyon Lake, and the millions of cactus, and the extended inclined single lane road... once I hit that corner, it was like a breath of fresh air for her, SHE COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT SHE HAD SEEN, this huge body of water was like heaven for her. She was so flabbergast. We spent the day on my 10' raft searching for spot where they[fish] were hitting. Finally found a great spot with lots of great Gills. Man, she couldnt stop talking about it the whole drive back home. On top of everything, she was FINALLY able to witness the wild horses on the side of the highway that my wife and I would always tell her about. That day made her fall in love...
Read moreThe road up to Canyon Lake is very Steep with numerous sharp corners so you will want to be sure to check out the road before you tow too long of a vehicle up there. The Lake is pretty but you can't see the whole lake from the road and picnic grounds. We took a tour of the lake on the Dolly Steamboat Dinner Cruise and it was very scenic as you floated through the various canyons and saw the walls of the canyons in their glory. We were told that it is like a mini Grand Canyon. You must have a park pass in order to stop at any of the recreation sites and picnic grounds but you do not need a pass if you are attending events at the marina or if you are just going for a Scenic Drive. There were lots of different types of ducks on the water of the lake and they seemed quite friendly as they were right up beside the boat prior to launching. Because of the high Canyon walls you will want to go in the early afternoon to ensure it still being light outside when you return from your cruise or boat ride. Also if you want to be able to do the drive down the hill daylight to see the...
