If you're looking for a peaceful getaway surrounded by nature, Acacia Recreation Site is a hidden gem worth discovering. I recently spent Mother’s Day there, and it exceeded my expectations in every way. The lake itself is beautifully maintained — clear water, framed by mountains. Whether you're into kayaking, fishing, paddleboarding, or just relaxing by the shore, there's something for everyone. The calm waters are perfect for beginners and families with kids. We didn’t have time to explore the walking and hiking trails around the lake; but we will visit again soon to experience it. There were a few picnic spots with tables, making it ideal for day trips. I didn’t see a lot of lighting so I would stick to the day hours. I appreciated the attention to cleanliness and safety throughout the site. Staff were friendly, helpful, and seemed genuinely passionate about preserving the natural beauty of the area. What stood out the most was the tranquil atmosphere. Unlike more commercialized lakes, Acacia Recreation Site remains relatively quiet and respectful — a true escape from the noise and stress of everyday life. Tips: • Arrive early on weekends for the best spots. • Don’t forget a camera — the views are stunning! I’ll definitely be returning to Acacia Recreation Site— it’s a place that refreshes the...
Read moreCanyon Lake is one of the many lakes Arizona boast and is a popular destination along the Apache Trail, and Acacia Recreation Site is one of the additional attractions to take a refreshing dip in the cool lake water of this desert paradise. There are a variety of various locations to assist you in accessing the lake and breathtaking shorelines. Acacia is the only spot with warm sandy beach line and a seclusive and remote swimming and fishing bay. Its picnic ramadas offer the out door enthusiast to enjoy their favorite activities from kayaking, air float toys, sun bathing, and canoeing. There is no boat launch or a ramp, but the distance to carry your boat from the parking lot is short. Motorboats cannot put in here, but there is a boat launch at the abutting Palo Verde Recreation Site just minutes away. The wake waves aren’t to bad to put up with for those looking to swimming or simply paddle around as well as the noises created from motor boats to scare away any hopes in casting a line for fishing. So enjoy your day at this hidden Arizona...
Read moreCame here on Sunday, 7/19 with my dog. The dog policy here is that they have to be on leash and cannot be in the picnic or swimming areas. It wasn't clear where the swimming areas start and end but I just assumed the areas that had sand were the swimming areas and the rocky areas in between were okay. The water was murky but seemed relatively clean. There were a ton of bugs and bees that would bother us so wear an insect repellent. We arrived at 6:45am and there was a good number of parking stalls left. We left around 8 and the lot in the middle had pretty much no cars in it yet. There was some litter around but it wasn't too bad. Don't forget to pick up a tonto daily recreation pass before coming. Looking forward to coming with a kayak and...
