I'd consider this a medium length, mostly easy trail. It's a bit between 4-5 miles from the trailhead to the abandoned/in-restoration resort (not sure exact distance since my tracker ready had activity on it) we went at what seemed like a perfect time for fall coloring, first week of October - lots of reds and yellows and oranges. I was typically a bit behind the rest of my family with so many great picture spots. The trail itself is mostly fairly narrow, and you'll want to keep an ear out for mountain bikers and horseback riders. It's not too steep but there are a few very small stretches where it is a bit more so. It's quite a bit of very gradual/subtle up and down, and it can kind of creep up on you if you arent used to a hike of that length. There are also quite a few small paths down for lake access on the trail, if you have dogs that want water. Quite a beautiful hike good for beginners I think, but again you'll want to keep in mind the distance and the continual, gradual...
Read moreThis review is based off Monday, November 12th 2024, short dirt road to get to the trailhead which most vehicles can make it down as long as you go slow and take it easy, lightly covered with snow currently, no fee to park. Once parked at the trailhead it took us about an hour walking at a normal place to get to the old buildings at the end of the trail which are a must to go see, the trail wasn’t difficult, no big hills, pretty much a walk out and back in kind of trail. The lake is beautiful however because of the snow right now there’s only a few places you can walk down and be right on the waterline. You don’t necessarily need spikes on your hiking boots but it definitely makes for a better hike if you have them as the entire length of the trail is covered in snow. Overall to trail was...
Read moreNice area, being a hike through aspen & pine forest along the lake. There are some historic buildings at the end of the trail that are worth visiting. Preservation of the Dexter Home is amazing and there is good signage for the various buildings. Would not call this an "easy hike" for those that are elderly, from flat areas, children, and/or have physical impairments. Dirt road, parking lot, and trail are majorly in need of repair and maintenance. Hardley any signs for the road and trail. The road & lot had many potholes, large rocks, and steep hills. You need 4x4/ all wheel drive And clearance. The trail was very rocky with many fallen trees; some steep areas throughout. Trail is mostly narrow. Be on lookout for mountain bikers. Be warned: There are no bathrooms...
