This place was amazing! Somehow, I had no idea this was a few hours from Salt Lake.

I ended up camping at the Wedge, which is a great BLM area right on the rim of the canyon.

Nearby sights to be seen included a petrified dinosaur track, native American petroglyphs the San Rafael swell, and more.

I was hesitant to take my electric car camping but was happily surprised to find level 3 chargers available for free in both Price (prehistoric museum parking lot) and Castledale (museum of the San Rafael). Both were close enough to get me back to camp with tons of power to explore the dirt roads each day and charge all my gear.

To get to the Wedge camping with Google maps, follow the directions for "The Wedge, UT" almost all the way. When it tells you to turn left for the lower fork road, take the right instead. Follow it all the way to the canyon rim and...

This place is very beautiful. Pictures really don't do justice to the scale and grandeur of the canyon. Standing on the edge of the canyon I was overwhelmed by the distances and feel some vertigo. The distances across the canyon and to the bottom are immense and can't be understood until you are standing there. Getting here is easy and you can make it in an average automobile. The dirt roads are in good condition. I have T-Mobile as my cell provider and had almost full 4g bars of service the whole time. There are quite a few nice camping spots and no fee to use them. I was impressed by how little...

The photos say it better than I can with words. I will be back on a moonless night... I imagine the view of the stars is awesome out here. I took a hand-held shot of the moon while I was there as a consolation. For those not looking for off-road-type terrain, enter and exit this area from the west (Hwy 10). The Green River Cutoff Road east of this area that leads to Hwy 191 is better left to high-clearance vehicles and those not in a rush to get where they're going.
