This place has been around since I was a child.at the risk of revealing my age lol i came here many summers from the time I was 8 till at least 12 so from 1978-1982 with my grandparents . My grandpa found this gem of a place and back then it wasnt as popular so there were open sites all the time to camp . It hasn't changed very much . The store the roads the campsites why even the shower and outhouse all look pretty much the same. The fishing is still incredible, if you like trout you'll get all you can legally catch and more. They use to stock it 2 times a month if I remember I remember watching them dump the fish in by the tank load. I wish I could find some old pictures we had back then. The drive alone is worth the trip. The viwe along the rim WOW. My grandad would drive his motor home on that outside lane up and along the rim , lol there weren't guardrails then and the road was 2 lanes and I he was half blind and I just remember sitting up front in the Co pilotseat watching that wheel get within inches it seemed of the ledge and I would scream were gonna go over to which his loud reply "sit the hell back so i can see the mirror boy !!!!! I got this!!!! Yeah !! famous last words. I would think to myself. I became a man and found Jesus that day lol . Only ...because I felt i had looked death in the face and won .10,000 ft is a long way down inches from the edge but I won.... Now grandads gone I'm a grandad I live in Austin Texas now where everything is always changing being developed expanded made larger to accomadte the constant inflow of new residents to the state ,the woods as they call the around here aren't nothing but desert shrubs compared to this. These are the woods I grew up around. I love it and won't ever forget .Thanks grandad and if it's one thing I learned that i can pass down is ,I will never ever put my grandkids thru that traumatic life changing drive along the rim we will fly in or bike or parachute or hike, something . Lol I'm just kidding but it did scare the hell out me. This place seems caught in a time warp and is hardly unchanged by man's constant need to renovate or remodel. Somethings are fine the way they have always been and changing them to please us is like trying to fix the MonaLisa or Michael Angelo's Sculpture of David . Kinda seems that when God gives us such natural beauty like Woods Canyon Lake touching it up or changing it like we like to do only ends up destroying it . Just my own...
Read moreThe bear warning was this: "yea we seen a mother and its baby up back here, no worries she hasnt bothered anyone" The firewood is a joke..7.50 a bundle which is half of what you get at Circle K and a soft wood so it burns very fast! Bring your own firewood Awwwe and oh they claim to stock the lake. The whole 4 days there we could neither find anyone on a boat or fish by the shore that caught fish. People where making fun of it. 3.00 ice for 5 pounds is also a rip off. There was a sign in front of this campground saying that the campground was full. There where at least 20 sights we seen on our way out that didnt have a reserved sign on it, plus these sights according to online reservations are ALL frist come first serve for the rest of the summer. Just to prove a point all the campgrounds around this lake never took down their " campsight full" signs so we drove in and spoke to each camp host finding that indeed there was campground sights available. Last yet the worse offense of these two women was, we made a reservation online 3 weeks in advance. Sight 47. To our horror the sight was barren! No trees, not a bush for our little dog to get shade let alone us. We went back to the front as sights 44 and 43 where empty with no reserve signs on them. We simply ask to change sights We even said we would pay for another sight. We where treated like children with a you get what you bought and sent back to the horrid space 47. I, 62 and handicapped and my husband 70, said we dont want to be in that spot 4 days. I told the women i was calling the rangers station. Coming back in my husband then approached the women and recieved a list of around 20 open sights and told we could pick one. Now we had to pay for this new sight as well so we had 2 paid for campsights unable to use but one. Since there is NO pictures of the sights online when you make your reservation, id say find somewhere else to stay! We stayed at this campground from Sunday night through Thursday Buyer beware.. New campers.. Be considerate of others AND stay the hell out of their camp sights Keep your dogs on leashes use the road to get from point A to point B and 10pm quite time means flashing others tents with your...

From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the natural beauty of the area. The lake is surrounded by towering trees and lush greenery, which provides a serene and calming atmosphere. We set up our campsite just a stone's throw from the lake, and spent our days lounging by the water, hiking through the forest, and enjoying the great outdoors.
One of the things we love most about Woods Canyon Lake is the abundance of activities available. In addition to paddle boarding or kayaking in the lake, there are also several hiking trails in the area, which offer stunning views and the chance to spot some local wildlife. We even saw a few deer and a family of ducks during our visit.
But perhaps the best part of our stay at Woods Canyon Lake was the opportunity to truly disconnect from the outside world. We spent our days lounging by the lake, cooking meals over the campfire, and enjoying each other's company. It was the perfect opportunity to slow down and recharge.
