Me and my oldest child decided to escape the heat of Surprise Arizona and come up north to visit this quaint little Lake. It was a Tuesday and we decided that it was the best day to come up because there would be less congestion and visitors. our assumption was correct and there were not many people at the lake.
We stopped in to the store and browsed around a bit. It had a fair selection of goods and where is that anybody would need while I'm out fishing for the day way up here in the mountains. The weather was a marked improvement upon living in the Valley of the Sun. The only impediment was paying money to park at the picnic area but when you're Escaping The Heat money doesn't matter.
We had a nice picnic sitting on a rock next to the water and enjoying the scenery. Our goal was to walk around the perimeter of the lake. After enjoyed our lunch we decided to convince the walk with the dog in tow. We did find out that the three-legged dog can still swim. The hike was more than we expected but not enough to make us regret coming out here. Sadly we did not see any bald eagles while on site but I did see an osprey.
This place is a nice getaway to remove yourself from the hustle and bustle of the world because none of the boats and motors and everything was quiet and peaceful. I would recommend anyone wanting to get away to come up here and enjoy the...
Read moreWoods Canyon Lake Loop gets an easy five stars. If you are looking to escape the desert oven and not feel like your skin is being slow-roasted, this is the move. The trail wraps around the lake and gives you that rare combo of trees, shade, water, and zero stress. Yeah, the front end of the lake is full of people doing all the usual lake things, fishing, paddle boarding, yelling at their kids, the whole scene. But once you get past the starting area and hit the actual trail, it is like someone hit a mute button on humanity.
The trail itself is super easy. I would not even call it a hike. It is more of a 3.5-mile nature therapy session. You are just walking through the forest, taking in the views, hearing birds instead of car horns, and feeling your brain slowly relax. There is barely any elevation change, no tricky terrain, just a chill loop that lets you wander, breathe, and forget that Arizona is mostly rocks and sunburn.
If you want something peaceful, beautiful, and not physically demanding, this is it. Perfect for a slow morning walk, a casual reset, or just a break from sweating through your...
Read moreWhen I went to woods canyon lake on September Monday 9th 2019 It was an off day I believe not many people were there. It was quiet and peaceful. Guess I went on a day where there weren't many people from the valley boating. It was a bit windy when we were kayaking but it was also very peaceful and I had a great time exploring the lake. If you want to go to Wood canyon lake and have pretty much have the lake to yourself go on a weekday like I did and they won't be too many people. Probably will go back when the Aspen and the oak change color and take more pictures on the lake. This is so so a lake where fisherman go fishing but when I went they were only a couple of people fishing in the lake. I also saw fish jumping out of the water to catch bugs It was a cool experience. Would definitely recommend it to anybody who likes to kayak, canoe, or use any kind of boat in the lake. This lake is also a great spot if you enjoy fishing and being in nature and having a quiet environment away...
