Disappointing this year. We felt very unwelcome. First ...We arrived on Saturday afternoon of Labor Day weekend to find the open light off and no open sign in the window. But we drove 2 hours to get here so I tried the door and it WAS open. Sadly, the staff seemed more interested in gabbing with each other and their friends. 4 women behind the bar, 3 talking to a group of friends and the other talking to a couple of friends. After about 6 or 7 minutes, another man walked in, clearly another friend or relative since one of the 3 women immediately came over to talk to him. Finally the single clerk deigned to notice us and asked what we wanted. Yes, what we wanted ... not could she help us. I told her what I wanted to taste and she turned away to get it, poured it then started back to her friends without asking my husband if he wanted to try anything. Well, it took 20 minutes to get 3 tastes. Very poor customer service. Second, the wines were all much sweeter than in the past. We have been coming here several times a year for about 15 years. There used to be 2 Reisling wines, a dry and a semi-sweet. Now their "dry" that they rate a 2 seems more like a 4 or 5. The Marechal Foch is rated 0, but tastes more like a 2 or 3. Third, the patio no longer has live music. We went out to enjoy our cold wine with some cheese and crackers. It was barely half full. And most of the people there on Saturday were eating pizza and drinking beer from the pizza place across the parking lot. About 10 minutes after we went outside, a couple of women came out with their wine. That was it. In previous years, every table was filled, people sat on the grass outside, on the walls and even on their cars. A totally different vibe. So, to the owner: Hire some employees who understand that their job is customer service, not chatting with friends and family. Reduce the amount of sugar you add to your wines, or at least to some of them. Bring back the live music on the weekend and maybe have someone to monitor the crowd to discourage non customers. We won't be back this year. Good luck...
Read moreAfter taking a stroll on the Allegheny River Trail, we decided to visit Foxburg Wine Cellars. They have a cute gift shop that sells wine openers, bottle stoppers, wine racks, wine bottle and glass holders, Steelers and Penguins decor, wine and grapes jewelry, snacks, local jams, skincare, aprons, and other home decors.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, they do not offer wine tasting. You may only purchase $8 wine slushie and/or bottles of wine to enjoy on their socially distanced patio or take home to enjoy in the comfort of your own home. They had two wine slushie flavors - lime and coconut.
We purchased a bottle of semi dry wine called Aurore. It was light and smooth but a little too sweet for us. In addition to the wine, I ordered a lime and coconut swirl wine slushie. The lime wine slushie consisted of their Chardonnay blended with lime mix and ice. Their Chardonnay was dry, crisp, and clean. The coconut wine slushie consisted of their Seyval blended with coconut mix and ice. Their Seyval had a distinctive taste and bouquet. Mixed together creates a sweet, tart, and refreshing frozen...
Read moreSo let's talk about a local hidden Jem of a place. Foxburg Winery is probably one of the nicest and laid-back wineries I've ever been to. Some can get rather snooty when it comes to wine. Not here! Need help picking a wine? Not a fan of certain notes or sweetness? These folks can lead you to exactly what you're looking for... More over than that, it's good! They sometimes have bands, game nights, food trucks, and various other activities throughout the year. Additionally special drinks, and various other limited-time menu options. Like for various holidays and such... The staff is great, funny, and personable, so stop...
