Enjoyed a lovely day at the Adams County Winery! The location stunning and well set up for a day outing. Their butterfly gardens surround a Pavillion and a lawn area with tables and umbrella. A stage is available for live music which we had on this visit. Today we enjoyed The Neil & Shannon trio who provided upbeat contemporary music spanning decades. Only drawback we had on our visit was the set up for food and wine. Walking a distance from the entertainment area you go to the store. All customers are asked to wait in line to purchase store products, glasses of wine, flights, tasting wines and Pizza or pretzel orders. My wait in line was for a pizza. I waited 10- 15 minutes in line to go to a register to pay for my pizza. Once I payed for the pizza, I was to go outside on the patio and show my receipt. I showed my receipt and the service person wrote another receipt with my order and a number on it and handed me a buzzer. 25 minutes later I got the pizza. Management really needs to get a POS system and when crowded (as it was when I was in line) open a register to take only food orders. Waiting on for a register which is occupied by wine buyers who want a tasting or who want to talk about wine, was frustrating when all you want to do is put in a pizza order (which you already know is going to take a while to make). If they streamlined this ordering system they would cut down on the wait time. The line would move faster and order would be placed with the kitchen at payment. They way it is now is very inefficient. Regardless of this, the pizza was delicious and although I missed 30 minutes of the music (which is why I came), I had a very good time. I took the pictures of the gardens while I waited for my pizza. I highly recommend this venue. Wine...
Read moreWe planned our day around visiting this winery and were extremely disappointed. To start out the layout was scattered and difficult to differentiant. Once we figured out where to go and got our pup settled I went inside to order flights and a pizza. After waiting in line for nearly 30 minutes I was informed that I could order flights but that they were no longer taking orders for pizza (at 3:15pm) because they were too busy and closed at 4pm.... Which is what we planned to have for lunch/dinner, but clearly that didn't happen..... So in addition to my flights I ordered cheese and salami which was not good quality and extremely overpriced. I took my $50 flights and cheese to the sunny patio and we tried the wines, which were OK. Nothing to write home about, but a couple (3 of the 8) were OK. After sampling the wine we attempted to get wine slushies but they were out of those.... So we got a bottle of the stray cat to tie us over... It was OK. Eventually we were able to try one of the wine slushies, the second flavor never was available for us to try. After spending nearly two hours in the hot sun with sub par wine and terrible music we decided to call it a day and drive the hour home. I still can't figure out what the hype is. One of the workers said they were busy because it was a new release day.... Which may be true, but why were are you not better prepared if you know you'll be that busy?! Overall, the wine here is absolutely not worth all the hastles and sloppy management. It's clearly for young people that just want to sit and get drunk. If you have a good palate and are looking for good wine stop by their wine shop for a quick tasting and don't bother wasting your time with...
Read moreThe wines were better than I expected - very good, I might even say.
I can see where the low rating reviews are coming from re: service and venue, but I have a different perspective on it. It has kind of a "mom and pop" feel, which I find refreshing. The staff were knowledgeable about their work and perfectly friendly on the two occasions that I've been there; however, they don't provide white glove service. They kind of move at their own pace and seem preoccupied with operations at times. You're basically buying wine from a room in a barn in Pennsylvania, and keeping that in mind anchored my expectations in such a way that I was happy with the experience.
If you have some time to kill in the area, perhaps because you're spending some time at Ski Liberty, check them out. The wines are very good in my opinion and, perhaps thanks to the significant differences in terroir, quite distinct from e.g. California wines of the same varietal. Tastings are offered, so form your own opinions on the wine. Some are far too sweet for my taste, but are described as such. Others are drier and on point. Each time I visited, the staff was able to find several bottles to my taste. If a wine strikes your fancy particularly, cases are available at reasonable, discounted rates if you ask.
Overall, it's a good deal on local wine in a relaxed setting devoid of pretense. What's...
