The D&R Canal Trail at Amwell Road is a hidden gem for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts! The trail is serene and well-maintained, making it perfect for walking, biking, or simply unwinding amidst nature. The scenic beauty of the canal, combined with the lush greenery, offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Wildlife sightings, including birds and turtles, add a magical touch to the experience. The trail is also family-friendly and flat, making it accessible for all age groups. Don’t forget to pack water and snacks, as the stretch can be long depending on how far you want to explore.

A must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy tranquility, fresh air, and stunning views...

I love the D&R Canal because you can ride ur bike in mostly shaded areas during 92 degree weather and ride more than 15 miles one way before turning back to my original destination. The route is beautiful with trees, turtles and other greenery on either side of you along with the beauty of the canal water with people Canoeing and kayaking. You can also stop off at Colonial Park and enjoy the flower garden, bathroom services and a beautiful lake. Many people use the D&R Canal for walking and biking in a beautiful setting. It is truly a...

If you're looking for a quiet place to walk and relax this is it. The canal path is level and wide enough to walk side by side. It stretches from New Brunswick and the Raritan River to just outside of Trenton. Along the way there are plenty of small towns to stop and visit. As an example, just off the canal path in Griggstown are the graves of eleven Irishman, unknown but to God, who were part of the workforce who dug the...

Great parking area to access the Delaware and Raritan Canal Trail. The lot is small but rarely full. The trail is very well maintained. Elevated cinders, never muddy, as long as the canal itself isn’t flooded after a heavy rain. The trail is great for hiking, walking, jogging, biking, birding, and even horseback riding. As you walk the trail one can’t help but marvel at the engineering of the canal.

Nice scenic bike ride about 11 miles north to the Rutgers campus. You'll be better off with wider tires and a suspension; there are some short rough stretches that will punish narrow tires. The views of the river and abandoned canal infrastructure are lovely, particularly on a crisp autumn day.
