Overview: shaded spots that are wonderfully cool during 80 and 90 degree heat, fun and inexpensive water park, various types of boats to rent and well marked trails.
Site: our site was A9 and it was covered by trees with very level dirt. It's an RV site with electric and water and a fire ring. The fire ring was a decent size but the grate / grill is very low to the fire and it was made difficult to cook on the much lower grill than maybe a higher one would have been. This site and the one next to it (site A9) are the closest to the port-a-potties. This does mean that people may walk through or right near your site to get to them, but everyone around us was in an RV and it wasn't an issue. This site is also the closest to the playground. You can't hear the kids on the playground, but it's close enough to be able to send them in a group and call for them.
Bathroom: the bathrooms include two port-a-potties and a bathhouse, not near each other. All were well maintained when we arrived, but by the end of the holiday weekend you could tell they had been utilized a lot. The bathhouse has showers which do have hot water and have a button you push. The showers are relatively small, but do have one hook on the interior to hook a bag or your clothes.
Amenities: Boat rentals - we rented a paddle boat, which was $6 for a half hour. Each paddle boat holds 4 and are easy to use. They also have canoes and kayaks to rent.
Nature center - the upper level of the nature center has a few herps in cages to view and an interactive touch screen. The lower level has a small room that has coloring pages and a video for kids.
Waterpark - the water park is great and had something for everyone. The area for the younger kids has two small pile and various slides and water features. The larger pool has a lily pad obstacle course, a small slide and more water features. There are also for larger slides of various speeds. There is a concession stand with really good, but overpriced food, but most waterpark food is overpriced. The worst thing about this park is consistently the bathrooms. We ended up leaving earlier than intended due to the state of the bathrooms.
PROS: Shaded! It was 92 one of the days we were tent camping and our spot was nice and cool Quiet campground Nice hiking trails that are well marked, easy to hike even for a 3 year old
CONS: Some sites are very close together or are basically surrounded by other sites (Loop C and Loop E)

Read moreI love everything about this place. All the stuff you can rent to take on the water, the nature center with snakes and turtles and usually other cool stuff on weekends. There are miles of trails and you could make your own path between them all depending on what kind of view you want. They have lots of sports areas as well as biking trails specifically and walking trails are kind of separated which is nice. Tons of parking. My only complaint is not really that bad, but the water park is nice, but in the middle of the season when the tourists come it gets so busy and there really isn't a lot of room in the water park even though there is a decent amount of stuff to do considering it's just a nature park. But it has gotten very popular and I think maybe a deep pool should be added somewhere for more dispersement of activities. Even... A wave pool? Water park needs some kind of accommodation for when it has high volume. That's the only complaint any local has that I know. Even tourists think it's ridiculously packed. Take in mind this is only on the busiest of busy days in summer. The week is decent up until Saturday, and they put in some big slides this past summer that really make it worth paying the cheap admission now. All in all, this is my favorite park and I wish I could just get a...
Read morePark is pretty, reason for stars but reservation process is terrible and hosts non existent and unfriendly. We reserved 3 days ahead of time, came in at 2 pm and found out site was flooded. No one was at the entrance, so called the park office and asked to exchange sites. She gave us another one. When I asked who and where do we check in, she said she would let the hosts know and they would set us up. We set up and camped the first night after going to visit relatives in the area. The next day we went sight seeing for awhile and then came back for the afternoon. We left for dinner at 5 and came back at 8:30 and decided to have a fire. Soon we received a visit from the park security asking when we were going to pay....thank goodness I had the confirmation information and he was nice...because the hosts said we had not paid...however we never even saw or were greeted by them, in the 2 days we were there. I will never stay in this state park again....unfriendly and no follow through. Not fun to be greeted by a person with a gun in the dark, saying you did not pay and to find out the hosts are only yards from where we are camping and to find out they had driven through in the afternoon when we were here and never stopped to talk to us. Terrible...
