Within vicinity to Northern VA, Trumbo Hollow starts out with a good lung burner climb built on switchbacks and then levels out. The prize is a grassy meadow "summit" with views of the surrounding hills and countryside. You can continue on the AT for a few more miles to the Denton AT Shelter, its one of the best on the entire AT. more info at intotheyonder.com

There is a very small parking lot at this trailhead - maybe only for 4-5 cars. No worries if it’s full! There is a larger lot 1/4 mile north just on the other side of 66. The Jim and Molly Denton Shelter is maybe 3 miles south from this trailhead.

Moderate to challenging at the begin as you climb up the mountain going south. Pleasant overall. Crosses railway track and then up the mountain and down into an open meadow area.

We did the trail to the Jim and Molly Denton shelter in mid-July saturday. The entrance to the trail is about a foot wide byt later it gets several feet wide. It is mostly well kept except with sone stretches of brambles and grass leaving about 9"-1 foot of walking space. The elevation gain is steep enough that it gives a good work out. It The trail goes up and down so it gives a break from a contious climbing. The shelter is a good spot for relaxing. Trombo Hollow vista is mediocore, especially in middle of summer when vegetation is like 3-4 ft tall around the trail. The trail is mostly dirt except a small stretch...

Depending on where you park to access this trail i believe, there is a bridge at the beginning of the hike. I will admit to not being super prepared but i am from out of state and wanted to check out some of the views here. The trail has some steepness too it and is mostly mild incline the entire way before you reach the rest stop. I didn't make it far enough to hit the stop but there were still some pretty spots along the path. Would definitely like to try again at...
