08/26/2021: Order placed, 30 day lead time acknowledged, 1800 paid. Over the next couple months I made a couple calls. Each time I was told a couple more weeks. I get an email response 11/12/2021, with an estimated delivery of "mid-December". I email 12/15/2021, get a response of "soon". Actually true this time. 12/21/2021: Order shipped, sub and amp shipped separately a few days later. I installed the speakers, not the sub and amp. It sounds great, to me the $750 price is appropriate for the 2 6x9s, 2 tweeters, 4 coax. Worth a 4 month wait? Absolutely not, but it's alright, stuff happens sometimes. 02/06/2022: Finally got the time to finish the install by adding the DSP and sub. I am kind of disappointed. I email about two issues.
First, the sub fitment is terrible. I was sent a passenger side subwoofer, and the power outlet panel is impossible to push in because there were no slots drilled in the sub for the panel clips. I can't even push it in to even just tape the panel on, it's not even close. So there's a hole in it with power wires showing and I can't use the power outlet (pictured, see scratch marks from where I tried to push the outlet panel in).
Second, some songs sounded great, but others pretty terrible. I was amazed at the variation. There is a boost or something at some specific frequency in the mid-bass that swamps out the rest of the song sometimes. It's very noticeable on podcasts too. The sound is like the muffled unintelligible bass that gets through the wall when you hear people talking in another room. Depending on the track, sometimes it's subtle, sometimes it's the most prominent thing you hear. I though that maybe I had gotten an amp/dsp that was tuned for a different car, especially given the subwoofer fitment problem and the long delay. I tried, but it's hard to ignore.
02/09/2022: Replacement sub shipped. I have no idea how it was so fast this time, and so slow last time. Great, right?!
Nope! A couple weeks later I install the new passenger sub, and the outlet panel STILL DOES NOT FIT. There are slots where someone attempted to drill something out, but looking at the outlet panel clips, and looking at the sub, there's no way. Again, it's not even close to fitting.
In the meantime, I have some back and forth with them, email/phone, about the issue I'm having with the sound quality. I sent them an example song where the mid-bass issue is obvious. They send me a list of 4 songs where the mid-bass issue is not obvious. Cool, they clearly didn't listen. They are hesitant to sent a USB to reflash it. Eventually it becomes apparent that they are just trying to talk me into thinking it sounds good.
March sometime: I want to know if I'm crazy, so I take it to a local shop, ask a guy there if there's actually something wrong with it. He sits in the drivers seat, listens to a few songs. Without describing to him the specific issue, he identifies the problem I'm hearing. He doesn't think anything is wrong with the install.
04/11/2022: I call again to try and get them to send a third subwoofer. Before I call, I change my mind and decide that I'm actually totally fed up, and I ask to return the whole set and get a refund. Refund denied. Apparently my 30 day refund period (????) is up, even though the sub enclosure still has electrical wires sticking out of it. The fitted sub is a key reason I purchased the kit. I'm on the phone for 45 minutes. I'm unable to convince them to give me a refund, even a partial refund. They are unable to convince me that I'm wrong, it sounds great, and that this has been the greatest customer experience of my life. They say they will send a third subwoofer. Drivers side this time, so no fitment issues with the outlet panel possible.
05/10/2022: No replacement sub has been shipped. Instead of calling yet again, I'm writing my first and last product review. I cannot recommend them, and I completely regret the $1799.00 I paid for this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreQuick background - I have now had the system in my rig for about 3 weeks. I wanted to test it in all conditions and music genres - and get some miles under my belt before jumping to any conclusions. I am NOT an audiophile by any means. I have done stereos in older cars growing up and usually upgraded head units and subs, etc. Nothing too major. I normally wouldnāt care too much about a new stereo but the 4Runner stock system really did suck. I ride with my windows open a lot and it simply wasnāt loud enough. Also had zero lows⦠and just overall was underwhelming across the board.
I read a ton about OEM Audio Plus on other models and they seemed like a great company/solution. I really wanted something where I didnāt mess with anything factory, and also didnāt require me to learn all about building my own system etc. I simply donāt care enough to spend the time building a custom system from the ground up. I wanted something that worked well and always would work well.
IMPRESSIONS AFTER 3 WEEKS: I have gone on multiple trips with this sucker installed and I feel as though it sounds better now than it did on first install. Sandy did say the speakers ābreak inā and he was right. Either that or I refined my EQ settings a bit. Let me just say, this is exactly how the stereo SHOULD HAVE SOUNDED from the factory. From podcasts to loud metal, to hip hop and classic rock, this thing really holds up. Iāve listened to songs in traffic and heard instruments Iāve never heard before. Iāve been flying down the PCH with all 5 windows open and 5 people and surf gear, coolers, etc packed to the max and had this thing bumping musicā¦.sounding fantastic. I even thought I was being pulled over by the cops only to be pleasantly surprised that the siren was a part of a song I was listening to! I also have listened to movies while sitting in Memorial day traffic and audio it all works amazingly. The sub in the back has gotten banged around by luggage, etc⦠and no issues. The things is built out of fiberglass and feels more solid than the rest of the truck
CONCLUSION: I know this isnāt a professional review by any means. I am a guy who wanted a better stereo in a car a paid damn near $45k for. I love music and I listen to music every day in my car. Toyota dropped the ball on their stock audio and OEM Audio Plus delivers an audio experience that blows away any factory stereo. Yes, itās not some thumping, high wattage, crazy award winning audio system. Yes, Iām sure if you are resourceful and know what you are doing with electronics, wiring, etc, you could build something similar in this this price range. But for the ease of use, the pro install job, and the sound quality, I wouldnāt want anything more than this. This is perfect for my lifestyle and I canāt imagine many of you needing more than what this delivers. If you want something that truly feels OEM, doesnāt affect storage space, power consumption, or electronics reliability, then this is a no-brainer.
I am in no way paid or endorsed by OEM Audio Plus. I literally am just a happy customer and I got way more than I hoped for in the stereo set up. If anyone has any questions, reach out. Also, if any of you are in the LA area, Iām happy to show you it and give you a listen. I understand that spending that type of money before hearing it in action is hard, but I am 100% happy I made the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis Company runs on Hopes and prayers ... they hope to have your system built in a timely manner and pray that you don't ask for a refund . The following is my journey through this ordeal .
June 11, 2021 I placed my order I acknowledged that there was a 30-day lead time.
After the 30-day lead time expired I wrote enquiring on a time line
July 14th 2021 We have received our delayed shipment of components needed to fulfill our backorders as of last Wednesday! The team is currently in production, and we're moving through our April / May orders this week. Likely, your order will be built by the end of next week, and we'll look to have it packaged and shipped early in the week of the 26th!
After waiting past, the quoted time . Again, I wrote asking for a completion date
August 3rd 2021 We had some production delays and were not able to meet the previous estimate. I apologize for that. Your kit is very much a priority for our team and we are hoping to be able to get it out in the next few weeks. There is one component for a coil that we are waiting to get our hands on and that may hold up the completion of your kit. We will aim to get it out altogether in the next few weeks despite this hurdle
After waiting two weeks , I enquired what a few weeks meant ...
August 18th 2021 We hope to get your built, finalized, and shipped out for you within the next 14 business days. We are excited to get this thing out to you! At this time, our team has all the components needed for production. We are currently building and testing all orders in batches sequentially in the order based on the timing in which they were placed and received.
12 business days later I received a phone call from a representative of OEM+ company . He stated that OEM+ was sorry. but , will not be able to complete my order at this time, due to yet another "hurdle" (apparently "all components" did not include... the wiring harness !)(SMH) . At this time, I was told " HOPEFULLY in October. we will have "all the Components" .
Well... October 15th 2021 (Over the 120 Day mark) (that's right , Over 4X longer than quoted time) I finally received the system. Now the kicker... It is incomplete
I phoned asking about missing bits and pieces. A representative of OEM+ went over "the check list" to establish what was missing. ( It is beyond me why this was not done before shipping out a system) After we established what the missing bits and pieces were , they promptly mailed it out ...to the wrong address (which I changed back in JUNE)...sigh
October 29th 2021 At 140 Day mark I finally received the final shipment to complete the kit
I will admit the sound is well balanced and full , but I truly believe that a local audio shop could have done this, In a fraction of the time .
So, in closing , (Knowing a 30-day lead time is misleading or just not true in my case) Is it worth the wait ...Well, only you ( prospective customers) can answer that Question.
As for me , this has been the most exasperating $2000.00, I have ever spent. Would I do it again ... Nope , I would support local and get that "good feeling" spending my...
