Fort San Jacinto, or as I affectionately call it, "Raccoon Island," is a must-visit for any animal lover, especially if you have a soft spot for raccoons like I do! My wife and I visited on her birthday, primarily to spend time with these adorable creatures, and it was an unforgettable experience.

A crucial tip for fellow raccoon enthusiasts: they're nocturnal! We initially arrived in the morning and only spotted one lone raccoon. However, as the sun began to set, an entire army of raccoons emerged! It was truly a magical sight.

These raccoons are incredibly friendly and seem to have a particular fondness for fruit. We had a wonderful time feeding them and observing their playful interactions.

In addition to the raccoons, Fort San Jacinto is also home to several friendly cats, adding to the overall charm of the location. You can pet and interact with them as well.

If you're an animal lover seeking a unique and heartwarming experience in Galveston, Fort San Jacinto is the perfect destination. Just remember to plan your visit for sunset to witness the full raccoon gathering! It's a truly...

This is where Interstate 45 ends. Go any further and you will be in the Galveston ship channel. Since the 1800's several different forts were established at this very sight. The last being a WWII post with a 90mm gun locate on the point. You can actuly climb up on the structure that held the gun that protected the bay from aggressors. The ship channel is right in front of you. Go here and watch the ships pass by. They are so close that their wakes spill over the rocky shore line. The jetty, back in the day was the world's longest. I think it is now #2. This spot is at the north east end of the seawall. It's a must see vista that is accessible 24-7. If you can't wait to pop the question you might want to go here at night under the stars. It's a guaranteed "YES"! Funny thing is...wait for it.....the Battle Ship Texas may some day be docked at this location. Just think, 20 years from now you can take the kids to the spot you proposed to their Mother and an old battleship will be...

Dirty. Tires, trash, graffiti everywhere. People camping inside RVs, the crap you might find in LA. Will not take away from the veiw. You will see wildlife, birds, dolphins, and fish jumping out of the water. This place even has editable blackberry patches everywhere as well as lantana flowers. DO NOT FEED THE FN RACCOONS. Any wildlife expert will tell you this is a horrible idea. They seem calm up until you or someone in or out of your party spooks them, and then it will be game on. Some idiot on here was hand feeding them. They are much stronger than a cat and arguably just as fast. They probably eat the dead decaying fish here. A nip from them will almost certainly result in...
