update about dog wash -
A note about the mud and it's removal: we recently took our golden to the dog park for some much needed exercise in January, despite all the mud we knew would be there, and despite the fact that he always finds even the tiniest but of mud. Aaaaand find the mud he did! We thought for a second we were going to make a clean getaway, but nope. Last second, he found a puddle and just rolled and rolled and rolled and rolled in it. He was so happy! So, before putting him in the car, we stopped at the dog wash station, and were pleased to find 1) it accepts credit cards, and 2) has a ramp up to the wash bay, and 3) dispenses soap. So even though we didn't bring soap, we were able to wash him. The time was limited so we had to pay for a second session to get most of the mud rinsed, but... whaddya do? Also, the money goes to the park we were just using, so it's a good cause. The water was cold, so be prepared for that. We didn't have a towel either, but turned the heat up in the car and survived. Honestly it was better than giving him an indoor bath at home (though I prefer giving him hose baths when it's warm out). So there's a little info on the dog wash, I hope this helps some dogs and their humans enjoy this great park!

West Michigan dog lovers rejoice! There is, just between Allendale and Jenison, a nice, open, fenced-in dog park! There are a ton of dogmenities here, starting with separate large and a small dog run areas. These have doggie-drinking fountains and double gates protect the main entrances. There are two large-dog enclosures which alternate in use, and one small dog area. These are connected to a larger fenced in, off-leash area you can walk your dog(s) in. There is a sign with a map that details this at the entrance.
But that's not all, there's also a series of multi-use paths (so dogs mus be on a leash for these portions) that go around the ravines, over a suspension bridge, down the ravines, and connect to the next park over. If your furry friend gets muddy there's a pay-per-use dog-wash available (though I don't know if it's open year round).
Speaking of mud, there are some muddy areas here and there and Rover will find the mud, so if you're squeamish about them sharing a mud bath with the interior of your car, use caution and find the muddy areas before you take their leash off.
There is free parking here, but it gets mega busy and crowded so keep in mind the nicer it is out, the more dog lovers are going to be out exercising Spot, so if your pup can't handle other canines or contain herself around other humans, you might want to go elsewhere or stay in the on-leash area. This park is free but there is a donation location by the entrance to the...
Read moreThis dog park, in my opinion since I have not been to a lot of them, it a wonderful play where you can let your dog roam free in a safe fenced in area. Now that doesn't mean you can just sit back on the benches there and take a nap!!! With lots of dogs all in one same area, there are bound to be a few confrontation between dogs. I have even had to break up a harmless tussle between another dog and mine, but don't think for one minute that your dog is not going to find him/her self where only any owner of the dog can control the situation. Now with said... Most days are wonderful! Don't be offended if someone asks you if your dog is fixed or has regular treatments for fleas etc. And truthfully, I have no problem answering people's questions because I have nothing to hide! I think this park is AWESOME! They separate the small dogs and they have their own fenced in area. Then there are two different areas that bigger dogs play. Right now one section is closed so it can regrow grass so that you don't leave with a muddy dog! This Spring I knew if I was taking my dog out there to let out some energy, an immediate bath was coming after we got home. Lol The current open larger dog section still has some muddy spots but the payout for a worn out dog is well worth the effort for me! This dog park also has working bathrooms for men and women and also a dog wash on site. It's very expensive, but if you come not prepared to cover the inside of your car with towels, etc. Then the dog wash is worth a quick wash!! Warning, that mud is hard to get off your dog. Not sure what is in that mud, but it takes some washing to get it out of your dogs fur! So a stack of quarters would come in handy in a pinch. I posted in some pictures the dog wash. It's $5 or $10 for ridiculous short periods of time. Personally, I come prepared with towels, seat covers and wash my dog at home. Buts it's nice if you are in a pinch. The Ravines off of Fillmore Rd. Has an upper and lower trail walking trails. With all of the rain we have been having, you are going to get muddy quickly. But it's a beautiful trail!! I just have a high energy dog and the segregated fenced in area is just fine for me! Overall, the trails and dog areas are well maintained and I actually saw a young man who was emptying trash! I think it's a great place. Some owners like to talk. Others do not. It's easy to figure out who is interested in conversation pretty clearly. Just as the dogs also let other dogs know they want to run and play or hide behind their owner. Check it out!!! It really is...
Read moreGreat Park always have a hard time deciding which dogs to bring as we have two large and one small. Usually if it's going to be one of the kids and myself, it's the small. So this particular visit we spent Our time in the small dog area There was one person leaving as we arrived so we had the whole area to ourselves and two owners and furry friends as we were leaving. Which is kind of nice to just throw the ball and let him run around. Our friends likes to also run on the nice Asphalt / paved circle inside the penned area. On this particular day was pretty cold. So the ground was nice and hard there is a spot in kind of the back corner opposite the gate that can sometimes be pretty muddy down low. So when we throw the ball, we have to be careful that it doesn't go in there. Otherwise the dogs get all muddy and gross. But there is a nice wash station inside the building along with nice indoor bathrooms. So if nature does call for us humans, We can take care of things and not freeze off our little bottoms. In my opinion, it seems like the small dog area doesn't get dug up as much as the larger dogs areas. I guess because of the animal size, of course . Have not gone on the long Paths that are all fenced-in yet. This particular time was too cold to be doing too much walking, especially with a...
