This is a really nice place! There is soo much interesting history right here! The spring was erected here in 1901 and is a historical place here in Andersonville. The Union soldiers who were prisoned here had no water here, but the contaminated spring, so one day, a fresh water spring burst here and everyone came over and drank the fresh water. It was caused by a thunderstorm. Anyway, a really nice place to hang out here in the old historical prison.

Memorial to the spring. I recommend going through the museum first and then downloading the audio tour to listen to as you go through the driving tour. The audio tour has additional about Providence Spring. Signs state do not drink the water! The water is cold, and setting is peaceful and somber. There are parking spots at the spring and it's a short walk. Area is well maintained with information signs.

The history behind the construction of the spring house, and the origins of the spring itself is fascinating. The POWs endured horrid conditions.
