This is one of my favorite places to just take a drive to and clear my head. It's just cool to sit in the shadow of such a massive and powerful structure. Not to mention that it has been featured in Hollywood blockbusters like The Hunger Games Series's first two movies. It's a humanizing experience to sit and stare up at a MILE LONG, 10 story (61m) tall, marvel of engineering while knowing that it is the only thing, albeit incredible, between you and the full force of the Savannah River.
It also has miles of walking trail, a park visitors center, clean, heated and cooled facilities, a fishing pier, a covered swing, shaded picnic tables, and a sizeable kids playground. Plus, it's always maybe 4-5 cars there at any given time on a week day, evening, and generally most weekends not during peak family outing hours. Even then, you might see a dozen cars.

Read moreHaven't been to the lake in a long time, lost interest for it due to: loud, drunk and rude people ruining family time. Water was always very grose and oily feeling, but I'm sure that was from sun bathers with oil on...lol and the park in general and the picnic area's were always dirty and not kept up well.
But this past week I went with my kids and was very pleasantly surprised, it was beautiful and very clean, no alcohol allowed, dogs had to be on leashes, it was a great day and beautiful weather.

Read moreExcellent pavilion! It was too hot but under that pavilion with the lake breeze it was tolerable. Loved the huge grills for large parties. I would highly recommend and book again for any family gatherings. The kids could swim, fish, play on playground or play volleyball or badminton. There's a net. And there were life jackets for kids to go in roped off little beach area. Water from spigot didn't look or smell right so bring bottled water. It was ok to rinse...
