Perhaps early in the pandemic, this place was better...but right now, as of 3/7/2021, there are A _LOT of kids there, with their parents, and sometimes dogs nearby, any day it's not under 35F or so. People not picking up after their dogs is a common issue at most parks...but even ignoring that, almost none of the younger kids (5ish and under?) that free-roam pay attention to social distancing [super young can't actually get around by themselves, and so most parents sort of remember to do social distancing]; they'll come stomping over from a completely different outdoor structure and start playing almost right ontop of you. Additionally, several people, including adults, were not wearing masks. I sort of understand if toddlers aren't wearing masks well because they keep trying to take them off, but adults definitely should know better and try to set better examples. A few of the much older kids, maybe 10+ on age, were a quite rough with the bridge at the castle, rattling it and running through it, causing my kid to fall; they didn't even stop to see or apologize because they were playing some kind of tag game, even after I called out, "Hey!"...they just kept running. Several kids chasing in a game of tag, across parts of the wooden castle, is an easy way to spread COVID-19 since it's carried by droplets through exhalation, and kids exercising exhale lots, gravity pulls downwards, and the proximity is very close....I was grossed out and also irritated that they were so careless; rude. I feel like parents should attempt to tell their kids that this space is shared space, and to be mindful and respectful of the other humans that are there, especially if the other humans are 3 year olds that were there just minding their own business, trying to enjoy the sunshine and air and the pretty bridge too. If your kids want to run around in circles shouting, or play a rough game of tag, please do that around your block or your backyard since that doesn't actually require the castle structure to do; don't ruin the space for others who are respecting the space and the people and trying to use the structures there.
It's a good park, yes, but a lot of the other kids are quite rowdy and very careless on safety, and extremely inconsiderate. Unfortunately, it's the best structure-wise near where I live. Meh. Can't wait for COVID to be over.
I like the fact that the park is free, but after being there once or twice, I actually now wish there was a steep deposit of like $20.00 up front, which you only get that back if you don't act like a jerk and you maintain social distancing. Maybe with the money they collect from poor behavior, they can provide free masks, hand sanitizer, dog poop bags and trashcans, and new play structures. "Kids be kids" shouldn't be used as an excuse for parents, to not bother to teach their kiddos how to be decent members of society, and it's never too...
Read moreThe grounds are very well maintained. It is clean, and the equipment is safe and devoid of defects that a child could get hurt on. This particular playscape is huge, with a castle, tons of woodwork and slides and climbing stuff for the kids. And there's a giant pirate ship, as well. My kids spent 3 hours there and were never bored. They absolutely did not want to leave, that's for sure. Also, for the parents, there a shade trees with benches everywhere to keep cool. Though if you have smaller ones prone to running off, this place is so big you may want to have a parent at either end to keep an eye on the kids, or get up and play alongside your child, because us parents need to have...
Read moreThis is my 7yo son's "favorite place." It's fantastic to have a playground like this in the area. I've lived in both Chicago and San Diego and cannot think of a similar playground in either area, maybe Balboa park in San Diego... Honestly, calling it a playground almost sells it short. It's more halfway between a playground and a theme park. There's plenty of shady spots for parents to sit and a variety of play equipment for the kids covering it's 7 acre area. Just be aware that injuries are possible on this equipment but, in my opinion, that is a necessary risk for a playground to actually be fun and engaging. Love it and your kids likely will as well....
