I’ve stayed at many places in Gloucester, but this is the worst experience I’ve ever had.My husband and I got a suite so we could have a jet tub. The first thing I noticed when I entered the room was the smell of perfume. I went to the front desk and asked if they sprayed something in the room or there was a room freshener because I’m seriously allergic but the woman couldn’t answer that question so we open the windows and things aired out. That evening I went to take a bath it was 10:30 at night. I filled the tub and got in turned on the Jets and the tub filled with bubbles. I called my husband in because it looked like bubble bath.He said, shut off the jets as soon as I did, the tub had a white film that covered the water and a brown ring that went all the way around the tub. I immediately jumped out drained the tub and took another shower. After my shower, I got out and went to plug in my phone. Next to the nightstand dust came flying up. I looked and there was so much dust on the outlet. It was fuzzy, and the rug and wall were covered too. So I went to my husband side to plug it in.It was the same thing. The next morning I told the front desk and the woman said somebody would come in and clean but to leave for a few hours. She called me a few hours later and told me the room is all set. When we returned I noticed that there were fresh towels, and the bed was made however the tub had never been cleaned and there was still all of the dust next to the bed.So when I went back to the front desk the operations manager, a young man named Ian was there I asked him to come up to my room.I showed him the large amount of dust and the tub, and he began to clean the tub himself. He told me to return in a couple of hours and things would be cleaned. I left again for a few hours. That evening I went to take a bath I got in the tub and started the Jets. I put a washcloth behind me because the tub was cold. The washcloth wound up in the tub with me and it covered a small box that was in the jet tub that had holes over it. There was suction so it kind of stuck. I’m guessing it’s some sort of filtration boxI took the washcloth off and it was brown from one end to the other and my tub filled with brown flecks. I immediately jumped out again, yelled for my husband and called the front desk.I asked them to come up to my room. Two young women came up,one of them who I had asked about the air freshener the day previous which I found out was a spray that they used to control odor in the rooms.Ian the operation manager told me that was something they do. When he came up to clean my tub .I asked for my room not to be sprayed again, but when they went back the first time and made the bed and replaced towels. They had sprayed the again.🤯The two young ladies came up to my room. I showed them the tub and the washcloth they took the washcloth said they were sorry and ran off. The next morning I went to the front desk, spoke to the same woman from the day before. I asked her if she had been told about my experience again with the tub and she said, yeah I heard the water had some dots in it.I said no it was way worse then that she knew nothing about the washcloth and honestly was less than receptive. I was really upset and she said to me perhaps you shouldn’t take a bath when you travel. I really didn’t know what to say. It caught me off guard .I walked back up to my room extremely upset I told my husband what the woman said and told him I was going back down. I went back down and told the woman that I thought it was terrible that she would say that to me.We have traveled many times and never had issues like this. We are kind people and don’t like confrontation so that was something I did not want to do but, I let her know what she said was unacceptable. She backtracked and said oh I only said that because jet tubs can have so much in them and I don’t use them when I travel. I simply stated to her that was the whole reason we got the room and I had never had an issue before I asked to speak to the manager. I was told his name was Mark and he would be in touch with me.That never happened!I called back a week later and got the young man Ian the operations manager who I had spoken to previously he said I thought we gave you a discount. I said you gave me a discount of 20% on the first night, but that was not the point the manager was supposed to reach out to me and never did. They did nothing for the second night at all. He said he would look into it and get back to me, but again never reached back out to me. This really was not about discounts. It was about horrible customer service .I wound up with an infection from the tub and was really upset about being treated so poorly. There were other issues with our room. The toilet seat was very loose and when you sat on it, it would slide from one side to the other. There was blood on the curtains. There was what look like blood on the sofa .I did not take pictures the first night and I wish I had but I did take them the second time and I am sharing them with you. we have since been back and stayed at the Atlantis next-door. It was a wonderful experience, nice and clean and we were...
Read moreI'm really disappointed with how much this place has declined over the years. My children and I started coming here at the end of the summer for about 6 or 7 years now. At first, it was pretty nice, now....not so much. We booked our room (always on the second floor), and when we arrived they had us on the first floor. We finally got that straightened out and when we go to the room it was barely cleaned. The glass slats on the deck with the ocean view were fill of greasy finger prints and grime as was the sliding door. I literally went to the store to buy cleaner and cleaned this and the bathroom before we settled in. Our refrigerator was not working as it was completely frozen over (they did fix this quickly by replacing it with one from another room) and the worst part is we usually hang out by the pool to relax, but the pool water was murky and greenish. It did not look maintained at all and when I asked them if it was safe to swim, they said of course. They told me it looks that way because of the high turnover of people. (ewwwwww...). The nice pool towels they used to provide have been replace with regular small bath towels and there was a lack of them. When I asked the front desk if they had any more, they said they would put in a request. Took 20 minutes. The people who cleaned the room left trash bags of towels and cleaning supplies all over the place in the hallway all day. Literally had to walk around everything. The real kick in the pants was when I went down to get a cup of tea in the evening (as I always have in years prior before bed) and they tell me no more hot water after breakfast. Wait.....what? Breakfast was minimal. They used to have fruit, cheeses, pastries, little omelets and quiches.... Now it was dry cereal a coffee cake and yogurt. Unfortunately, not a great place anymore. I'll be looking for another place to stay unless they can start working on some of the basic standards one would expect when paying almost $1,000 for two nights in Gloucester. I don't usually write reviews, but I feel this one is necessary. Sorry Bass Rocks, but hopefully you can take some of this feedback as constructive criticism and work on a few things to bring back the charm of...
Read moreThis hotel has an amazing pool and hot tub. The water is kept extremely warm, which allows for swimming in bad / cold weather. The fire pit was nice and there are benches to sit on right across the road by the ocean.
Please note that the online photos are a bit deceiving. If you want privacy, there is no separation on the patio / balcony between the rooms. I didn’t realize this so I was a bit disappointed as I prefer my privacy. People will also walk in front of your room to the lobby if you are the first floor.
The Continental breakfast is good, but I advise getting there no later than 8:45 AM. On a rainy, cool day all of the fresh food can be gone before 9 AM and it won’t be restocked. One day we got there at 9 AM and barely had anything to eat, which was disappointing.
Although it is called a hotel, this is actually a motel and you park in back of your room. The doors are very old and have a lot of gaps with absolutely no soundproofing. I was concerned that bugs might crawl through the gaps, but I did not see any luckily. There were so many gaps around the door that in the morning there was bright sunshine coming through. One night it rained so hard that water poured from a broken gutter pounding on the hood of the car. The air conditioning is old and rattled in my room. I called the front desk and maintenance supposedly fixed it, but they didn’t. With the noise of the parking lot, gutter issues, and the air conditioning, I had trouble sleeping.
I prefer a firm bed, and the beds were medium firmness and very springy. The mattresses were kind of worn out as some of them sloped downward towards the floor. Not the worst mattress I’ve slept on, but not the best either.
The rooms are a bit small and the bathrooms are tiny. I couldn’t imagine six people staying in a room.
Every room has an ocean view, but note that you cannot swim directly from the hotel because it’s too rocky. Good Harbor Beach is a few minutes away, but Wingaersheek It’s almost a 20 Minute drive.
I would consider coming back if there was better soundproofing and mattresses. I realize the hotel can’t do anything about the size of the rooms and I can deal with that but please put up more...
