The trail is great and the enchanted forest part of it is magnificent. It’s a loop, so you can go either way, but to the side we went to the first 4 miles gain 1400 ft elevation and than you have a bit more than 3 miles alternating elevation with a general decline in elevation. It was a rather hot day and some parts of the trail are uncovered so make sure to prepare accordingly. Also, on odd days it’s a walking trail and on even days it’s a biking trail. Although we were there on an odd day, there were many bikes and some ride fast, so be careful. Rather busy trail with many hikers and dogs, lovely views, comfortable parking, just a few minutes from Golden, which is by itself...
Read moreBIKERS YIELD TO HIKERS!!! Very frustrating - out of 38 bikers in the first mile only 2 yielded to us hiking. Very busy and a narrow trail. Has been my favorite local hike for the last 5 years because of its closeness, moderate difficulty, and abundance of flora and birds. Good variation of landscapes and a great view of Denver once you get far enough. However the last 3 times I've tried to go, on weekend and during middle of the week and on even numbered days of the month, there are a crazy amount of bikers who do not yield whatsoever to hikers. Stopping and trying to get out of their way every 30 seconds is not relaxing nor conducive to...
Read moreGreat place to hike. BE AWARE of RATTLESNAKES! See the rattlesnake in the pic on the upper right side, next to the grass. He is dark green, I almost stepped on him, I was about 5 yards from the Apex trail! I saw two in one day. Make sure you constantly look for snakes and don't drop your guard, DO NOT USE HEADPHONES OR EARBUDS while hiking. Snakes are most prevalent in the early morning when they are trying to sun themselves, often along the side of the trail. If it weren't for the rattlesnakes, I would give this place 5 stars. Every year somebody DIES on one of these trails in Golden or Green Mountain from rattlesnake bites. DON'T BE...
