I first started going here when I came from a distance to attend a fundraiser for local animal shelter I was looking for a place I could stay with my two dogs. And they were very accommodating and pet friendly I was delightfully surprised by the fact that there are some trails -- one just feet away from the lodge.

The restaurant is good (limited evening hours), with good portion sizes. When their I've also seen that they have things like Easter or other holiday brunch set up too. It has nice view, and the service is wonderful.

It's a bit of a jaunt to get to and you want to make sure you ask Google/app for the lodge specifically, as every time I plug in Tygart Lake State Park it has me ending up on the other (west) side of the lake, while the lodge is on the upper East side of the lake.

Lodge rooms are slightly dated, but clean and quiet. Pet owners: there are sliding glass+screen doors on the back side of your room that exit into a small patio and grassy area in back. This is nice because it means you can take your pet for a short walk on grass or over to the potty area without having to cross through the parking lot. So if you have a nervy pooch (alas, one of ours is), you don't need to worry about coming and going through peopled areas. :-)

In addition to the two trails closest to the lodge, you can travel further down along the Eastern lake side to where the nature center is, there's a really nice trail (look for play area, ball court across the road) that goes up the semi steep hillside along the ridge, and then back down over other hillside to come out where the camping and cabins areas area. My only complaint: too bad the trails are all mostly there-and-back ones. ---But you can do the lake trail northward, use the small spur trail to exit on the road, go across the road to the dogwood trail, follow that up the hillside, the.follow it southward, then back down the hillside to exit back on the road (now past the lodge) to reconnect with lake trail across the road , and then loop back northward on the lakeside trail back to the lodge.

Super friendly staff and attentive service: on one trip, I eft my electric toothbrush behind in the room once, and didn't realize it until back in DE. Had given it up as lost.....but I unexpectedly ended up in WV and the lodge area weeks later, so on a whim stopped in to ask if any cleaning staff happened to find a toothbrush --- and delighted to find they had put it in safe keeping with reception all that time, even though I hadn't called or asked. It's this kind of kind thoughtfulness that makes me come back to WV over...

Came to watch the sunrise with my boyfriend and his nephew early this morning. Decided to make a fun tik tok of them doing the macarana. While me and my boyfriend st on the hill his nephew sat on the guardrail going around the large sharp curve leading to the park. Staff started to arrive for work and a couple of visitors (who even smiled and waved). So my boyfriend's nephew sat on the guardrail and waved in between trying to dance for the video. A few minutes later a truck with security guards came n stopped. Told us we couldn't dance on the side of the road. Stacey, the security guard that is a manager told my boyfriend to tell me to stop running my mouth because I had said we are just family enjoying. Sunrise and some lights together. Threatened to call the law n told us we had to leave. Even accused my boyfriend's 19 year old nephew of being on drugs!!! Sweetest kid ever who has been through so much pain already in his life and miss STACEY HAD TO PUT ANOTHER DARK CLOUD OVER HIM AND US BY TELLING US AT A "FAMILY STATE PARK" THAT ADVERTISES THEIR "FAMILY FUN", that we couldn't do that because we was interfering with tourist traffic! At 6:30 am. It's no wonder they don't get many tourists anymore . Stacey runs off their business. Guess we won't be renting the cabin for a week now. Gonna find a more family gum friendly park with nicer staff. Even the other security guards we spoke to had told us to just leave the issue alone because she was coming over while we spoke to them and they didn't want to deal with drama that she had the authority to have us removed from the park. For what? Having safe family gum on the side of the road, in neon colored clothes for safety, making sure to not be in the road if my cars came along? For making. Funny tik tok to spread the joy and fun we was experiencing that could have been posted with a nice state park hashtag to help draw in more tourist and business possibly??my boyfriend's nephew has been dealing with serious depression and suicidal thoughts because he is different and feels alone in the world. 'm . All he wanted was to spend time with his favorite uncle andvery disappointed and WONT BE COMING BCK. his gf, watch the sun rise, and smile and Stacey ripped the light right out...

My fiance and I stayed at the cabin (specifically Cabin 6) which was the Classic Cabin, 1 - Bedroom. We absolutely loved it! The cabin was right on the lake with a beautiful view. It was small and cozy, but very comfortable. The cabin featured a full kitchen with coffee pot and Keurig, full size fridge/freezer, stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher, and toaster. There was a beautiful wood-burning fireplace and satellite television above the fireplace. Wood was provided as well as a fire-starter for each night that we were there. The bed had to be one of the comfiest I've ever slept in. It didn't sag in the middle like most places. The bathroom was updated. The shower stall was small, but the water was hot. There was an awesome lighted mirror above the sink in the bathroom. There was a small porch on the front and a larger deck out back that had plenty of seating with beautiful views of the lake. There was also a picnic table, fire pit, and charcoal grill right outside off the deck. Inside the cabin, were large windows that provided fantastic views of the lake. The cabin was very clean.||I loved sitting outside on the deck and watching the water. You could see the stars very clearly at night and the morning had a beautiful fog over the water. It was extremely quiet and peaceful...very relaxing! Being early in the season, there were no water activities open or going on which made for a very peaceful trip. There weren't many visitors at this time so it wasn't crowded or noisy.||We ate at the lodge for lunch the one day and dinner the next. The menu is small, but the food was very delicious. The staff at the lodge and the restaurant were very friendly and helpful...some of the best customer service I've ever experienced! There are beautiful views of the lake at the lodge and a deck out back for outdoor seating or just to take in the views.||I highly recommend bringing food to cook or plan on eating at the lodge. There are a few restaurants in town (mostly chain restaurants i.e. Subway, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Burger King). There is a Walmart nearby to get...

We stayed in a 3 bedroom cabin (#1) and loved it. Cabins are equipped with heat and air conditioning, linens, soap, and a fully stocked kitchen (you bring all your own food including cooking basics). Firewood is there waiting for you, as is a kindling box. Furniture seemed new, as did the windows. You can bring a pet to certain cabins with a pet fee of $40. Our cabin had some games in a closet, like Scrabble and monopoly. We went in winter so we built fires, played games, and went on snowy hikes. You can't leave your dog in the cabin intended (understandable) so we couldn't all go to the lodge for meals. We cooked in the cabin kitchen, which was ok except the skillets were the old peeling non stick type. Next time I'll bring my own skillets. The heat is controlled by individual units in each room, which get loud, but the sound became white noise for us. The cabin had direct TV and one small TV set in the main room. The park has playgrounds and a big water park that obviously wasn't open in the winter but will be a reason we return in the summer. I wish the lodge had more of a camp store for basics like cooking oil, salt and pepper, etc. But next time we will come prepared.

I really enjoy this park, even though I don't get out here this way all that often. The lake itself is beautiful in a good place to catch some nice sunset views...as for fish.. well, no such luck for me yet, but it's still early in the year! I have hiked here several times and have enjoyed it. I hear that the water park is pretty good, but not having kids, I've never used that part of it. The staff at the park that i've interacted with have been nothing but friendly and helpful. I look forward to staying in the lodge one day, hopefully this year. But, If it's anything like the lodge that is at Blackwater Falls State Park, I'm sure I'll be in for an enjoyable stay. This state park might not have some of the scenic views and vistas that others do have, but the beauty of the lake itself more than makes up for that. If ever possible in the future, I would love to see a boat rental concession added here. Because I think that would draw in a lot more people to this lake, especially those who don't have boats or kayaks/canoes with WV launch permits. Just keep up the good work, and this will certainly be a place that I continue to return to time after time.
