Pinnacle Peak is a fantastic hike that really packs a lot into a relatively short distance. The trail climbs steadily and offers beautiful views along the way, and once you near the top, you’re rewarded with a bit of adventure. The final section requires a scramble to reach the true summit. It’s definitely fun, but it comes with some risk—there’s loose rock, and the trail up there isn’t officially maintained, so it’s best suited for hikers who are comfortable with hands-on terrain.
Wildlife made the hike even better—I saw quite a few pikas darting among the rocks, which was a real highlight. I stopped near the summit for lunch, and it was the perfect spot to relax and take in the surrounding peaks and valleys.

It's only 3 miles but with 1000' of elevation gain and some technical scrambling at the end, it's a fun workout! The hike starts at Refection Lake, which is gorgeous itself, and you're fully exposed on this hike so be sure to wear sunscreen or cover up. Challenges include steep climbs, loose rocks, and buggy conditions – so, wear boots and bring bug spray. The trail is in fantastic condition and the views of Rainier and the unique rocky terrain along the way are breathtaking.
