New Winter Hike Discovery! The Most Stunning Ice Cave Adventure in Seattle

This is a very scenic area with well kept trails and foot bridges that has many day use activities. In Winter or Spring, depending on snowfall, you can see many avalanches happen on the mountain above the famous Ice Caves. My advice is stay out of any ice cave below the mountains avalanche chute! Many folks have died in the caves as they tend to cave in as debris falls from the cliff above. Still many have wandered in and out safely. Part of the issue becomes common sense as many enter the area they leave heir brains in their cars! People try to climb on top of the ice mounds or make loud noises, not knowing how sound vibrations can trigger an avalanche! It is a great place to learn about nature and see the trees that have been lost due to many avalanches over time. Enjoy but be safe!

This is a nice gentle trail with about 200 ft gain in elevation over a mile. The ice caves are cool, but it wasn’t a breathtaking view or something. When you get close enough, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into an air conditioned space. Lot of families and dogs on the trail. The trail has lot of spots to sit and relax, take cool photos, couple of bridges with one accessible water stream where a lot of people took their dogs or even picnicked. I saw really old people on the trail, so you can take grandparents here. We started from the trailhead further ahead and returned through this one.

The drive is nice. Parking will always be available since people tend to spend only about 1 - 1.5 hrs I would guess.

Bought northwest forest day pass from Granite...
