This park has gone way downhill in the last few years. It’s gone from a nature preserve to yet another project for the City of Green to pave, mow, and sell to the highest bidders. The diversity of wildlife - birds, butterflies, dragonflies - used to bring in visitors from across the state. When the farm was brought in, the large wildflower field was wiped out, despite promises to keep some areas standing. That field supported the entire ecosystem of the park. Gone are the hard to find nesting bird species like Yellow-breasted Chat and Yellow-billed Cuckoo. There are no more dragonflies on the ponds or in the old orchard paths, no more ebony jewelwings and butterflies along the trails around the bog. And in the last year or so, they must have sold off a patch of woods to plow and build another mansion. Despite the property’s driveway being on 5333 Thursby Rd, they decided to plow a wide path through park habitat right next to the wetlands (see photos) in order to make it easier to clear the land and build. Now when you walk the “Mindfulness Trail” you’re greeted with an A/C unit right next to the trail. It also seems like air traffic is being directed over the park more than in previous years. Give the city a few more years and it will look like the highly polished and manicured dead zones they call “parks”.

The trails are not marked the best. Once you understand the park, it doesn't really matter. The pond are catch and release and anyone can fish even without a license.

Southgate Park features excellent hiking trails. Be careful... Way finding signage could be a little clearer.

Another beautiful park in the City of Green. Can I be so lucky to live in this beautiful city? The fall festival here was lovely and we even picked up a pumpkin with a hayride for the low price of $5. The city zif Green is such a lovely place. Ive watched her grow since 1983. In this time is has become a true paradise in the prime spot if the akron canton areas. We have with multiple parks, golf courses, community centers, car dealers, restaurants (shout out to Twister Olive Restaurant it is the best in Green!!) And we even have an airport. Not to many places like southgate park. Come out and...
