DO NOT STAY HERE. They couldn’t care less about their residents, they’re dishonest, and they make up rules as they go. They now want to charge monthly for internet that’s included (50x5, btw), and they want residents to be responsible for covering the start up fee of switching from Simplebills. They don’t respect anyone who works from home.. I was told that they couldn’t just accommodate everybody who worked from home, lol.
Not everyone there works from home, so come again. Just say you don’t care, but don’t look stupid when I’m fired and can’t pay rent because random people are popping up in the apartment without notice… yelling/banging and everything. They also don’t let you know when vendors are coming.. they had people banging and drilling on the roof while I was working. I had to call multiple times before someone cared enough to drive over there and tell them to go away. Mind you, I was told that they weren’t supposed to be doing any work, so why not immediately intervene? Also, they made sure the new residents had their parking passes when they moved in, but left the ones who renewed hanging.
They wanted people to come pick them up during the hurricane, and for those who didn’t or didn’t have time, Mia, Mila (new assistant manager), whatever her name is.. called the tow truck on them. RESIDENTS. She played like she was so sorry, but little did she know, the last assistant manager already told me the tow truck only came when called, and the receptionist at the tow company confirmed that Mia/Mila called and how many she got towed.
We were only two months into our lease and they were threatening to lease our rooms had we not renewed by October 31st. I haven't found anywhere else yet and don’t want to be homeless, so I asked to renew. Mind you, Mia/Mila asked why I didn’t want to renew and I listed multiple reasons why. VERY shortly afterwards, the threat being emailed out to everyone, lol. They give new applicants specials and increase the rent for renewals. Last year, they gave plenty of time to renew your space.. that’s the only good thing I can say.
They gave me no notification that they’d raise my rent.. they said they couldn’t offer everyone my current rate, which ain’t my problem because they should’ve communicated that they wouldn’t be able to offer my rate after a certain time. You play by their rules and they still come up with more bs. I put in my request to renew by the time they demanded, and they still want to raise my rate. It wouldn’t matter if it was only a $1 increase.. it was not communicated. They told me that the manager would call and talk to me, but either they don’t pass any messages along or you simply don’t get a call.
When you call the next day, they’ll tell you the manager isn’t there and will return tomorrow. Nobody wants to talk to the “assistant manager” because what has she done other than call the tow truck and pretend to be understanding/sympathetic? Let’s not forget when one of the men who worked there randomly sat my belongings outside and when I reported this to Trudy (apparently former manager), she didn’t care and told me I needed to move them, lol. The maintenance man came to move my items back inside and explained that her behavior was due to stress of preparing for the upcoming year. That didn’t excuse of lack of skills and concern for her residents.
Oooh, and they also caught someone living in the apartment rent free multiple times.. SOMEONE HAD ACCESS TO THE APARTMENT THAT I DIDN’T KNOW/WASN’T ON THE LEASE. Guess what was done? Nothing. I could go on and on… the office lied and refused to give me corporate information, so that’s why I’m posting a review. I did some digging myself and found it.. still waiting to hear back. I’ll let you know if I hear something or if Carolina Creek...
Read moreI've been a resident of Carolina Creek for 4 years, and I've seen it change in many ways. I do not have a problem whatsoever with management (besides increase in rent in the past 2-3 years, but this is not necessarily their fault and more a fault within the way housing works in the US and constant increase in cost of living), and even though it has changed hands probably twice or 3 times in the past couple of years, it does not directly affect one's living, all is operational and easy to reach.
With that being said, only problem I've had is that of a few "forgotten" work orders such as fixing the kitchen sink or replacing the towel holder in my bathroom. Most of these are minor and I have been able to fix them myself because I am the kind of person to do that, but I understand that it could be frustrating to some. There was a time my AC would not work for a few days and that was due to a burst in a pipe inside the HVAC unit. While it took maybe 2 months for all of us to figure that out, they constantly came by to replace or replenish the cooling to make sure the unit was cold, until finally getting us a whole new HVAC unit which has been working well.
Management/Service can only do so much when management keeps changing hands often but that is not on the receptionists or the managers and more with bigger firm owning the building at hand, please be patient with them and treat them nicely and they will do the same.
Besides things in my apartment not being serviced in time (30% of the time and me having to go out of my way and ask in person in a polite manner [again, don't be rude to them] ), there were a few issues with bugs and whatnot from time to time (especially during the summer) but that is to be expected and no matter where you go, you'll find some. I am a very clean person in terms of how I managed my room and I live in a unit right next to the "tree" area so we get more bugs, but never has been to the point where conditions are unlivable, if anything you'll see a roach roam around from time to time, but again, the amount of times I've seen one is between 8-10 in my 4 years there.
Besides those things, I cannot really find anything else to complain about, I don't particularly use the amenities and they're there for people who want to use them, just expect the pool to maybe be out of service for a month due to an idiot spilling beer or throwing up on it etc. Never really had an issue myself with the pool or gym, and while not the most spacious gym, it does what it needs to just enough. If you're a student specially, i don't see the point of working out at the gym instead of taking the bus at the bus stop near the pool and going to the rec center, but to each their own.
With all of that being said and being able to reflect on my time at Carolina Creek, the staff has always been super nice to me (make sure to be nice to them, a lot of things are out of their control and don't treat them like just mere leasing agents or package holders, they're there to help out and deserve a raise imo). While yes, there have been some issues, I never ran into a moment where I got billed more than I should have or something felt iffy with management and whatnot.
For the quality/price standpoint, it is probably one of the best in Greenville, and you get what you're paying for. $500-600 (with an extra 40 a month for utilities [and my unit is a heavy electricity consumer) for a furnished room with internet access, your own bathroom, a desk, cabinets for your clothes, and a closet for storage/shoes/etc is a good value.
Let's just pray that you get clean roomates haha!
PS: Thank you to the Carolina Creek team that has been helpful...
Read moreAVOID this place at all costs!! I would give negative stars if that was an option. I moved in August 2018 and immediately noticed my bedroom was infested with BEDBUGS! I alerted management and they seemed unbothered by the situation. I was not even offered a different place to stay. The manager said I should buy bombs until they could have the pest people come out to take care of the situation. After 3 days they finally had pest control come. I had to pay for my own hotel in the meantime because they expected me to just stay in the apartment with the bed bugs.. no thanks! The pest company confirmed there were bed bugs.. it was going to take two more days for them to come treat the apartment. I spoke with the manager about treatment options. She said she was going to opt for the cheaper option for treatment that was just a spray and 80% effective instead of the more expensive heat treatment which is 100% effective. She explained if the spray didn’t work they would then do the heat treatment. I asked for a new apartment and was denied. Management still expected me to stay in the infested apartment.. and I had to pay for alternate housing arrangements. Meanwhile college classes had started and I was practically homeless! A week later I was informed by management that the apartment was inspected and free of bedbugs. I moved back in and within an hour of being back saw bedbugs crawling on the wall... I took a video and showed it to the manager. She was unhelpful and said she’d call for the pest control people to come back. I was expecting her to do the heat treatment as the manager had promised the first time around. She would not pay for the heat treatment and scheduled the company to come spray again. Meanwhile I’ve now spent close to a month paying for alternate housing AND rent there in an apartment I couldn’t live in. This went on for two more months with the bed bugs never being properly treated. Finally I told management I was moving out (even tho I had never actually stayed in the apartment long enough to call myself moved in) because the apartment was unfit to live in and they refused to do the necessary treatments to make it livable. The company tried to make me pay over $5,000 in rent for the year for what they called “breaking the lease” I had to get a lawyer and spent close to 9 months fighting them and collection companies. Finally I am done dealing with them and luckily was able to prove my case and didn’t have to pay them the money they demanded. I did however loose a ton of money having to pay rent the months before I left and money for alternate housing for three months and the money it cost to treat all my items for bed bugs.. three times!! Needless to say AVOID this place...
