This is not a premium golf experience. For the cost (stay and play 3 rounds over 2 nights), you would expect an exceedingly high level of service from check-in to check-out. The course and hotel are nice enough but the systems, processes, and staff aren't at all elevated. SYSTEMS/PROCESS/STAFF - Course and hotel run as two separate businesses. Stay and play rates were the exact same as what was posted online for general tee-times. Different people gave different prices for the same dates/number of rounds. Didn't track requests for room selection even if it's not a guarantee. Wouldn't give ice out in the clubhouse when we bought a cooler of beer for the course. Bartender gave us attitude for asking why we couldn't have ice. We HAD to buy a cooler of beer because there was only one bev cart on the hottest weekend. Bev cart was but a mirage. First round took over 5 hours!! Clubhouse attendant gaslit us saying that was their normal pace. Next day we were told 4 - 4.5 hours was standard. Waited 10 mins in the clubhouse for an employee to show up so we could pay for our round. Lost time on the practice range. Front desk hotel worker was grumpy and unpleasant. I don't expect much but I'd rather not commit $500 to grump.
If I had to guess, there are various managers overseeing specific departments and there is no overlap in caring about anything outside of their silo. They need a GM who can integrate their systems, institute quality control, bolster staff training, and make guest experience their top priority.
FWIW, the starters/rangers were nice and attentive. The course was in good shape. The hotel was clean. The casino was clean...
Read more(Repost) I Golfed this course the Wilderness on Saturday 5-26-18 thinking it was going to be outstanding as in previous years the course is in terrible condition the fairways are beat up from the winter and most and I mean most of the greens are destroyed. If you are a golfer I would highly not recommend you spending the time nor the expensive green fees to play this course at this time!! I was very disappointed! I golfed with a foursome and I paid for the foursome and I completely regret it. I also talked to the manager about them not notifying people of the condition of the course and he continued to tell me that there was not going to be any type of refund. Though he did say he might send me some discount coupons in the mail which I have yet seen (repost: the staff did send me two courtesy rounds of golf for the terrible conditions of the course but they sure took their time and I'm not really sure why they couldn't reimburse me while I was there!) again if you are a serious golfer, Putting is a third of your game this course will disappoint you completely when your ball changes Direction three times on the way to the hole not good. This course is strictly for amateurs at this time🖓🖓Note: at the time of this repost I do not know the condition of the...
Read moreVery nice course, although probably my least favorite between this and the two courses at Giants Ridge. The course was in excellent condition and it was easy to see why--I saw probably two dozen greenskeepers out there working on it in my morning round!
It's very pretty and generally player-friendly, although there were a few split fairways--including right off the bat on the first hole--that seemed kind of pointless. I also didn't find too many of the holes to be all that interesting, although the par 4 with the Biarritz green and the two par 3s on the front nine were good, as was the short par 4 wrapping around the lake on the back.
The rest of the facilities here (clubhouse, hotel) are also very nice and the staff was helpful. I was strongly considering walking the course and both the lady in the pro shop and the starter said it was possible. But then I pressed the starter on what he would like me to do and he gave me a clear answer--ride--which I appreciated. And it was good advice. While walkable, the holes are further apart than at the Quarry and it wouldn't have made for as...
