Fort De Soto Park: A Natural Paradise

Fort De Soto Park is an absolute gem and a must-visit destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The park’s stunning beaches, with their soft white sand and clear waters, offer a perfect spot for relaxation or a refreshing swim. The views are breathtaking, especially during sunrise and sunset, making it a serene escape from the hustle of everyday life.

The park’s well-maintained trails are ideal for cycling, walking, or simply exploring the lush surroundings. Kayaking through the mangroves is a standout experience, providing a unique way to enjoy the area’s wildlife and natural beauty. There are also picnic areas, playgrounds, and facilities that make it family-friendly and convenient for day trips.

The historical aspect, with the preserved fort, adds an educational touch, and it’s fascinating to learn about the area’s past while enjoying its scenic beauty. The park staff do a fantastic job keeping everything clean and accessible.

Whether you’re there for the beach, the trails, or the history, Fort De Soto Park offers something for everyone. It’s a peaceful, picturesque spot that’s perfect for a day out in nature. Highly...

The remains of the fort was incredible, but I actually enjoyed the trail with the signs in front of what's left of all of the structures. Those signs also have pictures. You get a real feeling for what this military base/fort was like in the early 20th century. The little museum there is really cool as well. If you want to learn about Tampa and it's rich history from the late 1800s on, this is where you go!

You can also enjoy a beautiful beach there afterwards. They have a little snack shack as well for you and the kids....

This place used to be amazing when I was younger. The park is ran down. No maintenance has token place in forever. The fort itself has taken a massive blow with deterioration. I am a little shocked that the camping area seems abandoned. Not well maintained. And unfortunately, for it being a Tuesday, the bathroom was gross and dirty. No toilet paper, but yet you pay $6.00 to park and then 2 more tolls just to get in. Its crazy how they take our money and do much of...

WOW... First off it's FREE (part of park admission, no extra charge). Stop #2 of we hit the beach first. Lot's to explore at the battery with plenty of history, kids will love the big cannons. Very well kept, clean, and not crowded at all. Just ONE of many things to do in Fort Desoto park. DON'T SKIP checking it out. After this head down to the stop #3, Battery Bigelow on the beach. If you find my review helpful please give it a thumbs up so it can help others too :) Thanks.

Spent the afternoon down the beach swimming & relaxing. On our way out we seen a sign & decided to stop and check it out. " November 1898, construction began on a new military post on Mullet Key. Fort De Soto, named in 1900, featured 29 post buildings, including barracks, hospital, stable, guardhouse, administration office, mess hall and kitchen, bake house, storehouse, and workshops. Two mortar batteries defended the fort."
