Nice park with all the quirks. Urban foragers pick dandelion leaves. The guys that maintain the landscaping says that they don't use herbicides, but they do use insecticides for ants, and poison around tree trunks to control gophers. Also, the water is reclaimed non-potable water, make sure you cook your vegetables before you consume them.
For toddlers and infants, make sure you stay within arms reach of them. Dog owners often leash their dogs, the "drop" the leash so that they can run around on their own. Others train their dogs to fetch since there is no oversight.
