I've been coming to this beach for years now and though it's gotten more busy since the start of the Pandemic a few years ago it still remains largely uncrowded.
It's also a driftwood sanctuary with exceptionally strong currents so don't expect to see or do any sunbathing. It's a beach for the rugged who are looking to relax and/explore and take in the amazing views of the Pacific Ocean and cliffs. You can hike up onto the cliffs or walk along the beach as the beach is a few miles long during low tide. There is an $8 parking fee if you want to use the parking lot, otherwise many people choose to park on the sides of the road.
There are no dogs allowed but you are allowed to fish. You'll often see people fishing or surfing / their wet suits on as the water is pretty cold. It's not a beach for swimmers and you should always keep and eye on the tide, current and look out for sneaker waves as I've seen so many here. All in all it's a great place to stop and take in some pretty dramataic views and scenery of this part of the...
Read moreVery beautiful quintessential California coastal beach. The beach is very large. There are not that many people on the weekdays but definitely more on the weekend.
Parking is $8, and the lot fills up quickly.
Bathrooms are in bad shape but functional. No sinks.
Walk further south, and the beach is almost empty. The beach is so big that you have a lot of space to yourself or a group.
Walk north past the cave and the cliff that sticks out, and the beach becomes clothing optional. It is about a mile to the north end.
The sand is squeaky clean and great to walk on barefoot. There is no lifeguard, and the waves are strong, so be careful when...
Read moreSan Gregorio Beach has a rugged, natural feel but may not be the best pick for a relaxing beach day. It’s about a 6–8 minute walk from the paid parking lot, and the shore is cluttered with driftwood and large wood piles, making it feel more chaotic than serene. San Gregorio Creek runs through the area, adding some scenic value, but overall the beach lacks the clean, open sand that many beachgoers seek. Unless you’re specifically into driftwood photography, driftwood condos/structures or exploring tide zones, this one is worth skipping. It does have seasonal lifeguards during...
