In case you don't know like we didn't.. you are not allowed to fish from beach or be on the beach at night which was the only reason we rented an airbnb there so we were very upset about that! There is 2 piers 1 for sight seeing and the other to fish off of. The fishing pier cost 5 of us $28.00 (2 adults to fish and 2 kids to fish and me I just went so I could bring the kids back to the house when they got tierd while their parents stayed to fish. So it cost me $4.00 to just walk on the pier and stand there til my granddaughter had to go to the bathroom which we left to come back to the house, there is a restroom there but I brought her back to the house then we went back, I stood there til I went got fishing bait out of the truck for my son, then I stood there til the kids were done fishing and ready to go home then I brought them back to the house so I paid $4.00 for that little bit of time standing there 😞
They didn't none of them really catch anything just a couple little tiny fish and 2 crabs that fell off.
It was crowded on the pier we went about 9ish maybe later.
There is a nice playground. The police sit between the fishing pier and below the playground area, they will run you off if you are out on the beach at night and they will come to where you are with their lights on and turn around if your walking on the boardwalk next to the beach at night time. So no we won't come back to buckaroe beach again what's the point if you can't walk along the beach at night and fish from the beach. Go to a real beach like va beach where you can do these things and walk to the shops and food places.
The lady working the pier did tell me they have had several shootings here and of them was about 3 months ago, we didn't know that either and she did say too that o e time when there was a shooting people started running to the fishing pier and she had to close it with everyone on it. Kinda scary, she said it's when there is events and things going on usually.
Also the fishing pier is open 24/7 I believe.
My adult son didn't save a puffer fish that washed up and they seen jelly fish and stuff where they were swimming at.
There is nothing really walking distance or to do without driving. We went to bush gardens 1 day it was about 35 minutes away I think.
There's not a lot of people at this beach. We did see 1 guy sleeping on a bench when we were walking back from the fishing pier the one night and there is ghost crabs that you will see at night time on the beach if you can get on the beach without getting caught but they are so on the boardwalk too.
So if your looking to fish from the beach or walking it at night go else where, you can't do it here. If your looking for a beach atmosphere like va beach with shops and food places to walk to dont come here go else where, I seen 1 food truck and I only seen it one day. The public bathrooms were good.
We won't be back. Apparently some areas near the beach are bad areas so check into that also before planning...
Read moreThis is in no way the park's problem, but I went there to get a little peace. I had been waiting for a parking place for almost 10 minutes. I was on the right side of the road correctly facing traffic. A burgundy Toyota truck abruptly pulled in backwards into a spot I was waiting for. A young girl took a picture of me, I guess to see my reaction. Is there no patience or common decency anymore. I had turned my car off bc both vehicles that were leaving were taking a very long time, which of course is their right. But this younger generation sometimes acts as tho they can show entitlement. I tried to contain myself, and did so. Then was grateful that I got a spot in the shade. Had they communicated instead of being jerks, we certainly could have been civil and neither would have had any issues. This happened to me a few times last year as well. One time over a spot, to the point where a man appeared to be stalking me. Taking pics of my car and plates and following me back and forth to the extent that I took a picture of him and his car and plate and showed the police on site and explained. Ppl, the beach is for relaxation. Fun. Family. Swimming and summer sun. Chill out. Have fun and enjoy it. It's going to be fall soon and you are going to miss out being so angry and spending so much time thinking about reckless and angry behavior. Peace. I'm praying for...
