During my recent week-long visit to Newark, Ohio, we made the journey to Blackhand Gorge State Nature Preserve. It was truly a delightful experience that allowed me to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As I embarked on the seemingly very well-maintained trails, I was immediately struck by the serene atmosphere that enveloped the entire preserve. The towering cliffs and dense forests provided a picturesque backdrop, inviting me to explore further and immerse myself in the beauty of nature.

One of the highlights of my visit was the peaceful ambiance that permeated every corner of the preserve. The sounds of birds chirping and creeks running with the gentle breeze created a soothing soundtrack that accompanied us throughout our hike. With each step, I felt myself becoming more attuned to the rhythms of the natural world, allowing me to leave behind the stresses of the outside world and fully appreciate the present moment.

As I reached the end of my hike, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to connect with nature in such a meaningful way. Blackhand Gorge State Nature Preserve isn't just a place to hike; it's a sanctuary where one can escape, unwind, and reconnect with the beauty of the natural world. Whether you're an avid hiker or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, this preserve offers an experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression...

Recently had a chance to check this park out. I ended up walking over 8 miles and loved almost all of it. As many others have noted, the main "trail" is a paved path that meanders along the river. This alone offers a great experience.

I decided to explore the actual trails. I found these easily as they are on the left side of the paved trail, with clear signs. These are of course more challenging than walking a paved path, but the biggest challenge at the time was simply that they were a bit muddy in spots, and very slippery, as it had rained the night before. I had sneakers and I managed, but better trail shoes would have been better. The flip-side is that I walked back along the paved path and the sneakers were nice to have.

I was first in the parking lot and it was a weekday, so I had the trails to myself at the start. I saw nine deer in groups of two to three. The trails were ideal...beautiful. I found myself often stopping just to pause and look around. The water features were perfection.

Overall a great experience. I came up from the south, but went through Newark on the way back. Great coffee shop located on the...

This is one of my favorite places to go!!! This is where you can peacefully walk along the trails; swim; or run, jump, and climb having your own real adventures!!! You can walk having real conversations in person with friends, family, and/or your partner, you can have a romantic picnic, and walk holding hands and talk and kiss your partner passionately and enjoy the beautiful nature get your mind out of the gutter, and off the phone and truly live!!!! Also you could totally go kayaking, or bring the kids to walk trails and swim. There is a lot you can do out here you just have to get out and enjoy life rather than be tied to an electronic device constantly, because that's real happiness not some machine!!! Live a little!!!! You'll be like why didn't I do this more sooner?? 😂 This place is soooo beautiful, and it's amazing! Plus there are lots of cool animals out here like chipmunks, birds, squirrels, snakes, spiders, deer, fish. There are trees, and there's water, and beautiful smells, and you might find flowers, and make new friends even who knows? But you have to start by exploring! Get out there!!! Live...
