I’ve been coming to the state park for years and never had any issue until recently! I brought my mini Goat to the camp area and had a good night. The very next day lady officer literally began harass me first she told me that there wasn’t allowed any goats on that property and it stated in it in the rulebook so I asked her to show me, she couldn’t find it so she ended up. Let me stay one more night was only staying tonight. The next day She came up to the camp area as we were cleaning up getting ready to leave told us that we were still in the property and if she needed her IDs, we came on a weekend we wasn’t paying until we left! She begins to harass me the whole entire time. I was there every time I drove in or anything she came back to where I was at! So I called to talk to the Head guy which was Alberto at first he was very nice and understandable. He said he seen the Goat and everything was all good. I also would like to mention that nobody complained about the Goat and didn’t have any issues about the go. Everyone loved him there! So my complain also about Alberto is he told me which I recorded every encounter but he had told me that he has a lady that walks a mini horse on the premises all the time and they’re allowed on the premises animals they’re just not allowed in the camp areas overnight so I asked him if I could move to the beach area and my cookout he said yes so I went to the beach area My pet pet zone And was trying to enjoy my time he drove up several times to give me papers about certain things, but wouldn’t give me certain papers that he had. I felt like I was harassed the entire time. I was there since I’ve been about five years camping going to the beach area never once have I had an issue! The wildest thing to the Rangers was harassing me, but nobody complained about the Goat. The lady officer is the only one that had an issue with it. Literally, there was several other workers. I recorded came up the Goat and went about their business. After the incident with Alberto and the woman, Ranger Rangers were at camp facility petting the goat! Goat didn’t make any noise nor was there a crumb of mess left behind! He also came back to the beach area another time when we finally had enough and said you know what we’re just going to leave. He tried to give me paperwork stating that no animals are allowed on the premises at all not even to walk, but he has stayed at prior that he knows somebody that walks a mini horse up there all the time, so why harass me with my mini goat! The harassment was just too much. I’m actually looking further into it. They told me several different things one minute the Goat was allowed there and not at the campsites overnight and then he came back and said he wasn’t allowed there at all, but then again turned around and said that people walk horses up there! Harassing someone you should know the exact laws instead of interrupting me, my whole entire day every five minutes! And the biggest main thing to me is there wasn’t no complaints from anybody...
Read more*I just recently made my 2nd visit to Raccoon Creek State Park in Beaver County, PA. I also discovered it is one of the largest state parks in Pennsylvania.
The park is home to many miles of hiking trails, a beautiful reservoir with a swimming beach and boat rental, a very large wildflower reserve and numerous waterfalls. I discovered one of my new favorite spots on this trip - Frankfort Mineral Springs Falls.
Frankfort Mineral Springs Falls is about 10 feet in height. While not the tallest you'll find in the area, it is quite serene and we loved to watch the water plunge from the stone chute above, onto the rocks below... With the rain pattering off the forest leaves and the waterfall cascading off the rocks below, it was rather majestic and very soothing. We equated the sound to the reality of a setting on a noise machine! The area around the falls is wide open, and while it can be slippery, it’s possible to walk up to and even around the falls.
Just to the right of the falls is the clear, cold Mineral Springs. The high iron content in the water has left orange streaks along the stone walls from where the spring erupts forth and runs down to some carved stones beneath. While some do drink this water, it does not appear to be monitored for cleanliness. I love some fresh spring water, so I had to sample some for myself! It was very cold and initially refreshing, but the high iron content was very evident in the taste. Maybe that's what made it so effective, back in the day?
After finishing at the falls and the spring, continue to follow the trail back out of the grotto and up the hill away from the creek.Once you reach the top, the ruins of one of the resort’s buildings is located directly ahead.
I went for the hiking and the hiking was amazing! No shortage of beautiful trails and amazing scenery, where ever you look! The reason for my 4 instead of 5 start rating is as follows, I stayed in the "modern" campground in a Class A RV. I travel with a pup, who is very much a family member. There are 2 loops that allowed pets. 1 of the 2 loops was a gravel road and was really keyed towards tent campers or possibly sprinter van campers as the spots were smaller with No electric hookups at all, but did have a shower & bath house. The only other pet friendly loop had very few electric hook ups! There was a large outer loop with a cut through road in the center. The cut through road had electric with a couple additional spots at each end. When I reserved my spot, all electric spots were booked. And even with that said, very few were large enough to accommodate my class A. So I chose a Non electric site that had a "slight slope". This site took all the blocking I had to get reasonably level. Which is not "slight" to me. And I was very disappointed to see that of the "few" larger electric sites, some were used by tent campers?! There was an abundance of tent camping with very few actual RV locations , in the pet friendly loop F. It just surprised me, that there were no guidelines by which you could choose a site. Ie; size or type of rig. And lastly, I had to be very careful not to scratch up my RV due to many trees needing trimmed once you turn into the park area, especially the campground area. Some I could not avoid and will have to buff out the marks left on my RV. If you have a tent or small camper, none of this will matter. But if you're driving a bigger...
