This is an astounding place! Had a friend in town and we went exploring. Thought we might be able to do some rock hunting (not the place for that it turns out) but we were astonished by how massive it is, how many different activities it supports and took wild guesses as to the capacity. The beach is really nice and well maintained. My friend lives in, and I recently relocated from, Florida. We've seen world-class beaches, the ones you see in the commercials during the winter. These aren't the same but still really nice. The waterpark/splash pad area for the tots, multiple volleyball nets, soccer goals, picnic benches, tons of trees and planted areas. Boat launches, indoor pool, a camping area plus things we didn't see. It really has it all. We spent about 2 hrs walking around in a misting rain in late September and had a great time. Imagine how much more fun it'll be in summer? We even saw deer tracks at the water's edge. And some dog prints. The grass areas are really well maintained as are the walkways, the boardwalk, the planting beds, even the parking lot is in decent shape. A return trip is guaranteed.

A large park drawing from the greater Detroit area and busy on hot days with beach goers. A daily metro parks pass is required. Or annual pass, which is the better buy, if you plan to frequent the park. Activities and space for same abound. You can begin with a long walk around the park on the paved paths. There is a large designated beach area for swimming and grassy areas nearby it to get away from the crowded beach for picnics and yet be close by. The nature walk is pristine and not overcrowded so there is nature to be found. We saw ducks with their newly hatched chicks, turtles sunning themselves, swans and goslings, what we thought was an otter surfacing, and an egret sunning himself and drying his wing feathers. Dogs can be in the park on leashes, but not in the nature walk area by the nature center. All people seemed to be welcomed and enjoying themselves.

This place was super clean and we had a lot of fun in the sun options. Daily pass to get into the park was $10 and the pool was $5/person. The beach and splash pad was no additional charge. We stayed at the pool for a few hours and then decided to go to the beach which was also just as clean. We had a lot of fun and will go back again soon. One thing I will say though is the little pool side store was very expensive, it’s nice for the convenience but a dollar store bucket and shovel was $5, bottled water was $3, googles $10, dollar store quality stuff I’m talking. So if you plan to go to the beach bring your own sand toys and maybe a cooler with drinks and googles. I did also see what looked to be mini golf, we will have to check that out next time. Great job keeping the park so nice.
