*CUSTOMER BEWARE: the fudge was COVERED in mold.
Iām making this for something that happened on 10/24/23. The one star is for the moldy fudge, employee and how she handled this problem. Our family has been going to Spicerās since I was a little girl, and itās always been a good experience before*
This was our first time going this season and we got the āBuy 2, Get 1 Freeā fudge. We got the Pumpkin Toffee, Peanut Caramel Apple Pie, and the Heath. We end outside and ate our fresh doughnuts (always good!) and drank some of the frozen cider (since Iām leaving this review I figure Iāll add we luckily had a gallon of cider to add to our frozen cider because it was all ice and no cider- no biggie, but not the usual experience we have with your frozen cider!), and next up was fudge.
The Heath one was first. It tasted okay, nothing alarming. Next I grabbed the Pumpkin Toffee, and when I went to open it I immediately noticed the MOLD growing on top. Like a LAYER of mold. We were grossed out. I looked at the bottoms of each container, and the date on the Pumpkin Toffee was in August (something like ā231908ā but I didnāt think to take a picture). The other 2 containers had dates for September. We thought the dates were Expiration date, which would explain the mold growing on the fudge because we figured fudge lasts for a long time. I went back inside to return all of the fudge.
When going back, I said Iād like a refund because the fudge had mold on it and the young girl at the counter took the moldy fudge and said sheād be back. When she came back I told her I just wanted to return all of the fudge because we were grossed out, and I pointed out they were past their Expiration dates. She seemed apologetic and said the Manager told her to just give me more fudge because of it. At the same time another young girl came over and acted like she may be the manager and would refund me. She seemed apologetic too. I also told her I didnāt want any of the fudge, and that they should probably check their fudge for mold.
At this point as sheās got the receipt and is hitting buttons on the register, an older woman w/ glasses came over. Iām assuming she was the main person in charge of the store. She was not friendly, and seemed to have immediate attitude. At this point I felt like a broken record because I also told her we didnāt want ANY of the fudge and just wanted our money back. She seemed offended that I was asking for a refund, so I told her she may want to check their fudge because it was all expired and there was mold all over one of them (the oldest one we purchased). She got mad and gave me a dirty look, rudely saying āThose are not Expiration dates, theyāre Made By datesā like that changed the situation. I told her that all I knew is there was mold all over the fudge and to go look at the fudge the girl had taken to the back. She ignored me, grabbed out $18 and handed it to me. At this point, Iām bewildered by how rude sheās acting, and Iām upset with how sheās treating me. I asked if the $18 was including the tax because I hadnāt checked if it was included, and she snaps āThere is no taxā. I walked away at this point because the woman was ruining the entire experience I had that day, and pretty much the love I have for Spicerās.
When I repeated what she did to my family, they were also upset with how the situation was handled. I want to point out the main thing that upset all of us: NEVER ONCE did she apologize! A āOh my gosh, thatās gross and I am not sure how this happened. Iām sorry for this. Of course weāll refund youā wouldāve been the normal and appropriate response. Instead she seemed UPSET that I was asking for a refund. What was I going to do with moldy fudge?!?!? Also, it doesnāt matter whether the dates were Expiration dates OR Made By dates, your fudge was still full of mold. If youāre reading this, zoom in on the pictures and you tell me if youād be happy? Honestly, the girls who helped at first had better hospitality and were handling the situation. The older woman may want training on how to handle...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDISAPPOINTING AND RUDE STAFF Prices are kind of high on a bunch of stuff, especially their fresh baked apples. They want $18.95 for a small bag. Not a 5 lb bag or anything like that. Like a 2 lb bag of apples so that's a first turn off Very overpriced on everything We get to the donuts and the donuts smell really good. They look really good. They're fairly priced-ish. I will say just for a very small strawberry donut you know $6 for a half dozen 1295 for a dozen. Something like that. The donuts do not have any flavor at all. They are just like eating paper I got a six pack of strawberry donuts and a six pack of defrosted strawberry donuts. The frosted ones are pretty good but all you can taste is the frosting. There is no strawberry flavor at all The regular unfrosted strawberry donuts have literally no flavor at all. There's no strawberry. There's no donut flavor. They're not sweet. They're just paper dough . Not one person said anything to us walking into the store or by the donut area. We got to the ice cream area. Once again nobody we went to the fudge area once again. Nobody around one employee came walking by didn't even acknowledge us We got to the barbecue sausage and stuff like that and I had to ask a lady at the front. Does the barbecue sauces have mustard because I am highly allergic to mustard on their ingredients list. All they have is some of the ingredients and then a category of spices, which in most cases means they use mustard But when you ask somebody they have no clue. So she basically told me in her opinion she would not buy any because it could have mustard in it because they don't specifically say it does or not
So when you're told by an employee not to buy something then you just don't so I avoided that We asked that same employee did it cost anything to go pick strawberries She said no. You paid $2 for a cardboard box you go out you pick the strawberries and you come back and they weigh the strawberries and you pay them then We go out. I use a cane and a walker to get around and I tell you what if you are disabled or have a hard time walking or getting around in rough terrain. Avoid this it's hard for disabled people to do We get up to the front to pay and we are charged $5 for the wristbands that we were not told about. We were told they were free $2 for the box and $4 a pound for the strawberries which we were told about the $2 box and the $4 a pound for strawberries but not told about the $5 for the wristbands we were told they were free We go over to the winery and I will tell you this. I will never walk back into that winery again. Customer service was non- existent we were not greeted. We were completely ignored There were two gentlemen at the bar who apparently had been drinking for a while. There were two ladies at the other end of the bar who had like 10 bottles of wine and the one customer service lady there stuck with them the whole time. She did not check on anybody else. She didn't say anything to us until about 10 minutes of us sitting there in silence
The older lady was extremely rude and snippy and stuck up. You can tell she did not want us there. She didn't care about us. She walked over in front of us three or four different times. Never even lifted her eyes to look at us
We were going to get a couple samples of wine because we had never been there. So I asked for a sample of the honey white and she had to go get little plastic cups. She didn't say anything about hold on We asked for a sample of wine and the older lady was very rude about saying you can only have two She was very snotty and rude about it when she came back over after we had our two sips of wine and didn't even ask us if we wanted anything else. Just stared at us awkwardly I said we're good. I said my wife was going to ask about the mojito apple cider But doesn't want to spend that kind of money if it isn't any good. And she just looked at us and said it's just minty and then walked away from us We walked out and will never walk into the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe (3 adults and 4 children) went to Spicers yesterday. We had purchased donuts and cider when we first got there, plus tickets for the hay ride and corn maze. After purchasing, one of the adults mentioned, that we got free cider and donuts for purchasing tickets for either the hay ride or the maze, she wasn't sure which one it was. We went and had fun with the kids and went on the hayride. Btw, the guy driving the tractor for the hayride, was wonderful and funny! We loved him! Afterwards, we went back to the store to get the free donuts and cider. We went back to the donut counter and I asked Rachel how we got the free cider and donuts with tickets. She immediately got an attitude with me and said "you don't get free items with the hay ride!" My daughter and i looked at each other, and my daughter said "wow, she has an attitude!" I said yes she does! Then Rachel rudely asked if we purchased tickets for the maze and I said yes. She rudely again asked what donut I wanted, handed it to me, then asked if I had the ticket and I told her my son was at the maze still and she rudely again, "said I will take that donut back then!" Mind you, I was asking her how the whole thing worked, because I didn't know. I then went up to the front of the store to talk to the manager about her attitude. He says to me "thats not like her!" Not once did he apologize, he just kept saying how thats not like her. I dont know if Rachel was having a bad day, but she needed to be talked to immediately and the manager should have apologized or at the least, found out what was going on. He did not do that. Unfortunately, we will never go back to this orchard again! There was absolutely no reason for us to be treated like that! It was our first time there with the kids, so we didn't know how it worked. Also, a side note, I just filled out 2 other surveys for employees at other businesses that were extremely nice. Why? Because I like to recognize employees that are nice and treat people with respect...
