Kalmia Gardens is a journey back in time and a sweet spot on the drive to the beach from the upcountry in S.C. It's free...so enjoy all spring has to offer at this beautiful Southern Home and Gardens before the kids ask " R we there yet?" There are lots of 🚶‍♂️ steps and hills if you like to hike in the woods. It even has more wooded trails than gardens. It does not compare in size to the greater gardens of Brookgreen or Magnolia, yet it has its own small town beauty. You might say it is "like a farm home away from home". It's not crowded and it's kindly a perfect stop. You don't have to pack a lunch or cooler if you stop at Mc Leod Farm ( Mc Bee SC). Simply pick up some fresh strawberries and order some farm take out for your very own picnic at Kalmia Gardens! When you arrive at the gardens, you can picnic, then play away and take a hike to the lake just like your grandparents did as kids. Before you leave, make sure you read the stepping stone behind the Plantation Home. It's a Narive...

This is a wonderful place to go and enjoy nature. I was able to take my kids with me and they enjoyed it as much as I did despite the fact there was no play areas. We enjoyed the nice, peaceful walks in the woods and on the many different trails. It was an educational walk as well because of the different educational signs that they had. We learned some stuff about the city that we did not otherwise know. This is also a wonderful place to go and take pictures! It provides beautiful scenery including pretty flowers, ponds, lakes, wooden bridges, forest, and open grassy areas. It was a great place for us to get exercise, relaxation, and beautiful photos. We were able to create and make beautiful family memories here! We will definitely...

Great walking and hiking trails, some wheelchair accessible. Developed trails & boardwalk along Black Creek, with acres of level 2 undeveloped hiking trails. Beautiful during all seasons. Fresh water aquifer flows near bottom of a several tier set of stairs that give quick access to the creek, and aquifer & boardwalk, or take the lazy level 1 maintained 1/2 mile trail. Picnic tables available near parking & Kalmia house, bathrooms on premises. Botanical garden has tags indicating species of local flora, and indicators of the local fauna. Upper entrance level has well maintained formal garden of local flora...

I spent most of the day outdoors and loved every minute of it! Kalmia Gardens in Hartsville has so many trails to explore! I have to go back to complete the rest! I was not prepared for the mosquitos though. My repellent wasn't strong enough! I had to get some from the grounds guy. There are trail markers and lots of different terrain. Black Creek was so peaceful. There is a bathroom near parking and a porta potty at the trail end.

Kalmia Gardens is a hidden SC gem with a variety of outdoor activities. Visitors can drink from a refreshing artisan spring, hike lovely trails through woods or use the boardwalk to view the creek. Visitors can also stroll fragrent garden paths, enjoy picnics on the shaded lawns, or rock on the covered porch. The views are breathtaking and provide wonderful photo and video opportunities. Restrooms are available to visitors.
