This place is great and much larger than most people realize. If you follow the trails out behind the castle and explore a bit, there's so much to take in. You can go for miles, and the trails can range from very easy/relaxed to much more challenging thru the deep woods. The trails are very well cared for/groomed, though they are not paved or marked in any way. In some spots deep in the woods you can also come across the old ruins of 1800's mansions, etc. There's not much left there, but there are signs explaining the history. The only thing I actively dislike about this location is that they seem to be strictly on-leash, and threaten $100 fines for those not using leashes. My dog is well trained, and we go deep in the woods, so I disregard the leash garbage, but it is something to keep in mind for the more populated areas of the park. Parking is easy and usually plentiful, though weekends may get busy. There are small parking lots from the entrance of the park, all along the little road leading all the way up to the castle. Outside of car shows and big events, I have yet to go there and not be able to find somewhere to park. If you live in Haverhill, this is likely your best option to take in some nature and escape the city. Just be aware of your surroundings, and it's not a bad idea to bring a friend/hiking buddy. I only say that cus it is in Haverhill, and there are desperate people in every town, but probably more than usual in Haverhill. I've never had an issue with anyone, but I'm a thirty-something guy with a big dog, not the best target. I would be cautious if I were a female going out alone, though. I'm not at all trying to scare anyone away, just be aware and be smart/safe about your surroundings and how deep you go by yourself! It's definitely worth checking out, and certainly worth an afternoon hike if you're just trying to do something local. Plenty of picnic tables and space to hang with the family. There's also a nice little playground, tennis courts, etc. Definitely...

It's got a nice playground area and a wide open area for the kids to run around and play ball and play Frisbee with a nice playground area for the kids to have fun in with a slide and swings and all that good stuff. There are trails to walk around and areas we you can set up a blanket to have a picnic and for your convenience there even men's and women's restroom facilities. Great place to visit and spend the afternoon as a family or whether you're going solo or a great place to take a date for a stroll after dinner. It's a fine place you can go for all sorts of reasons for...
Read moreCheck my other review. Since I go here often I will not comment every time. Oh, before the "era of covid" many activities & programs were offered. Now 2 yrs later other places are returning to normal maybe programs will start soon. Still take care: if places require masks WEAR them I hate them also but better to be safe than sorry (don't have to here it's open fields & woods).A great place for individuals, couples, & families to enjoy the outdoors for an hour, a few hours, or the whole day. Unless you want to walk up the hill: I'd suggest ride up in a car then hike on...
